Location: Office of Student Support Services

Pay Grade: Administrator and Professional Salary Scale A06

Work Calendar: 12 months

FLSA Status: Exempt

GENERAL PURPOSE

Under the supervision of the Director of Student Services, the Coordinator of Health Services is responsible for the coordination of the Stafford County Public Schools Health Services Program. The duties and responsibilities will be completed in addition to those required for the position of school nurse.

MAIN JOB TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Coordinate Stafford County Schools Nurses:

  • Interviews and recommends prospective school nurses, substitutes, and LPNs in collaboration with building principals
  • Develop continuing education opportunities to include professional development resulting in continuing nursing education credits (CNE)
  • Develop and maintain the Health Services Program Manual
  • Onboard and train all new nurses and substitutes on the policies, regulations, and protocols for the district
  • Facilitate regular communication with the nurses to ensure consistent messaging through nursing meetings, workshops, and level representatives communications
  • Monitors, observes and evaluates school nurses in accordance with district practices
  • Facilitates scheduling support by the travel nurse(s) for building-level support

Coordinates district-wide Health Services Program

  • Develop and schedule required annual trainings for staff (i.e. CPR, AED, OSHA, bloodborne pathogens, medication administration, and diabetes) per VDOE requirements
  • Support state mandated screenings with training and maintaining of equipment through calibration, repairs, and replacements
  • Serves on the district’s School Health Advisory Committee
  • Compile statistics for school health services and completed mandated reports including immunizations, chronic disease, school nursing survey, OSHA, and screening statistics for local and state agencies
  • Assists in ordering medical supplies for the district
  • Collaborates with Child Find to coordinate health services and IHCPs (Individualized Health Care Plans) for medically fragile students transferring to Stafford County Schools
  • Coordinates with director, building administration, school nurses and student families to implement MOU (Memorandum of Understanding) and IHCP when medically fragile students require a one-to-one nurse
  • Participates in the coordination and collaboration of SISP (Specialized Instructional Support Personnel) team members and professional development

Develop and Maintain Community Partnerships

  • Serves on the Health Sciences Advisory Committee for Germanna Community College and Eastern Virginia Career and Technical College
  • Serves as the liaison for the school nurses and other organizations including the Health Department, PD16 School Health Team, local nursing programs, and other community stakeholders
  • Represents Stafford County Schools at local and state coordinator meetings and events

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Hold a Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing. Master's in Nursing, Education or Public Health is preferred.
  • Hold a current Registered Nurse license for the Commonwealth of Virginia.
  • Have at least three (3) years’ experience in Stafford County's Health Services Program or a comparable program in another jurisdiction.
  • Experience in personnel management and program administration is preferred.
  • Certification by the National Board of Nursing is preferred.

WORKING CONDITIONS and PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Work environment is primarily inside at times with moderate noise levels, temperatures that are controlled but may require some exposure to weather, and some exposure to chemicals or other negative air quality elements in which appropriate safety equipment will be provided.
  • The work is medium work, requiring exertion of up to 50 pounds of force to move or lift objects.
