Employment Status: Full-Time 40 hours or Part-time 20-29 hours
FLSA Status: Non-exempt/Hourly
Schedule: Monday - Sunday, nights and weekends as necessary.

Summary:
The Custodian is responsible for the care, cleanliness, maintenance, orderliness and safety of the parish facilities and grounds. This position also requires the individual to be knowledgeable of minor repair procedures and requires a focus on maintaining a neat, clean, safe, and organized environment. The Custodian has decision-making responsibilities within essential job functions, in keeping with organizational policies and guidance.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
· Cleaning and straightening of the church Sanctuary building on a daily basis, and cleaning of other buildings, to include, but not limited to, cleaning and restocking restrooms, sweeping and mopping floors, vacuuming carpets, cleaning office areas, and related custodial duties according to schedules.
· Ability to perform light handy work requiring basic plumbing, electrical and carpentry skills.
· Proficiency in reading, understanding and following instructions on basic diagrams for set-up of meeting rooms, outdoor areas, and other spaces and facilities on campus. This requires moving tables and chairs and other furnishings for meetings and events.
· Grounds maintenance, including operation of lawn mowers, string trimmers, leaf blowers, and other tools. Hand work, such as raking, sweeping and weeding, to keep campus areas neat and free of trash and debris.
· Assures trash is collected and disposed of in a timely manner or on a scheduled basis. Loose trash, debris, tree limbs, etc. will be collected across campus when observed.
· Is aware of the proper and necessary inventory of supplies for all facilities, and reports shortages or order needs to the Manager. Responsible for ensuring all facilities, rooms, restrooms, etc. are stocked with required supplies.
· Ensures that heating and air conditioning units are functioning properly. Variance from expected norms will be reported to the Facilities Manager immediately. Additionally, must exhibit an attention to detail in performance of duties. Prompt reporting of other problems or concerns with campus facilities is expected (e.g., power outages, water line breaks, plumbing problems, etc.).
· Ensures that buildings are secure when not in use and security systems activated when closing at night. Maintains the security of issued keys and security equipment, including passwords.

Qualifications and Requirements:
· Supports and adheres to the religious standards, policies and procedures of the Archdiocese of San Antonio.
· Maintains confidentiality regarding sensitive matters.
· Must demonstrate ability of serving collaboratively with other members of the parish staff. Must be willing to communicate and coordinate with members of the parish community with whom one may interact.
· The ability to communicate to various levels of office staff, ministry leaders, parishioners and contractors/vendors.
· Ability to work in a team environment, fostering a positive work environment.
· Punctuality and reliability are a must to ensure efficient, safe, thorough and timely operation of the custodial/maintenance program. As important is the proper and respectful interaction with other staff, parishioners, guests and contractors/vendors under daily working conditions.
· The church parish operates seven days a week, except for scheduled holidays. Custodial personnel will regularly work weekends and holidays as necessary according to schedules, and some early mornings and later evenings are necessary as the schedule requires.
· Hired personnel will serve a 90-day evaluation and probationary period.
· Meet all Archdiocesan employment requirements.
· Provide proof of valid driver’s license and insurance.
Preferred Qualifications:
· High school diploma, GED or equivalent.
· Experience with past custodial or building maintenance work.
· Fluency in Spanish is helpful though not required.
Physical Demands/ Work Environment:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, sit, and occasionally required to climb stairs, balance, stoop, kneel, or crouch. The employee must frequently lift and or move up to 50 pounds. The noise level is moderate in the environment. The employee will be familiar with personal protective equipment and its proper usage.
