St Johns Community Health is Hiring a Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner Near Los Angeles, CA

Position Summary

The successful candidate must be comfortable being an egalitarian part of a treatment team, be willing to participate in case conferences, work closely with non-medical Behavior Health staff, and be knowledgeable about addiction medication. The licensed Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner (Psych NP) will be responsible for diagnostic clarity and medication management of patients in need of psychiatric medication and/or addiction medication. In addition, this provider, under the consultation of an MD psychiatrist, will be responsible for 5150 assessments and triage along with other non-medical Behavioral Health staff. This Psych NP will work collaboratively with the Behavioral Health team and the referring Primary Care Provider regarding patient care. The Psych NP will assure that patient treatment is individualized, integrated, comprehensive, and ongoing. Treatment plans will be updated as needed, presented in case conferences, and will actively participate with patient discharge plans. This position requires that the Psych NP possess the skill sets to have individualized, integrated, and comprehensive assessment drive treatment and have treatment fit the patient’s needs and their readiness for change. In addition, the Practitioner must be comfortable with and knowledgeable about conducting patient treatment groups (psycho-educational, medication management, etc.) Psych NP will attend provider meetings as needed, participate in all Behavioral Health meetings, and consult with all team. These services will be provided at St. John’s Primary Care Medical Clinics in South Los Angeles or Compton.

Qualifications/Licensure:

Education: 

Master’s level Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner Program

Experience: 

· Bilingual in Spanish / English preferred

· Within scope of training

· Familiar with Electronic Health Records (EHR)

· Familiar with Integrated Model of Care

· Medication-assisted treatment (MAT), including opioid treatment programs (OTPs), preferred

Qualifications: 

· CA license that is either Board Certified or Board Eligible

Licensure/Certification: 

· Currently licensed by the State of California Board of Registered Nursing as a Registered Nurse; currently certified by the State of California as a Nurse Practitioner; possession of a Furnishing Number approved by the State of California Board of Registered Nursing, with advanced pharmacology courses and training

· Possession of a DEA Number

· BLS and PALS certified

· Employees are responsible for maintaining individual certifications as required by job function or by law and provide verification and re-certification when requested by management

Responsibilities:

Personal-Team- Organization 

· Is in good standing with any/all relevant California or other state Licensing/Certification Boards that has currently or historically issued a practitioner’s license to applicant

· Has acquired knowledge about and work experience with assessing and treating multi-diagnosed individuals (i.e., HIV, Psychiatric Illness, Addiction, and Medical Illness)

· Has acquired knowledge about and work experience with multi-diagnosed population during which provision of behavioral health services have occurred in a medical setting

· Has work experience integrating behavior health care into primary medical care

· Has acquired knowledge about, comfort with, and work experience with evidence-based treatments (i.e. motivational interviewing, harm reduction, contingency management, cognitive behavior therapy, stage of change model, addiction medication, interventions, etc.)

· Has acquired knowledge about and work experience with individuals burdened with various forms of addiction, (i.e., alcohol and drugs - illicit and licit, food, sex, gambling, etc.)

· Has acquired knowledge, comfort with, and work experience collaborating with non-medical Behavioral Health staff

· Has acquired training, comfort with, and work experience with the use of addiction medications

· Has experience and comfort with conducting staff trainings as it relates to psychiatric medications, differential diagnosis, and addiction medication
