GENERAL STATEMENT: St. John Lutheran Church in Kailua was organized as a congregation on December 12, 1954, with a charter membership of 72. It is a branch of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of America (ELCA). Its grounds include a sanctuary, fellowship hall (“Grace Hall”), offices, a playground, and a preschool that has been leased to a tenant for many years.
Throughout the history of our congregation, we have continually strived to uphold and nurture and grow the faith of a multi-generational membership. Over the decades, St. John has been active in various community organizations and ministries and is currently a driving force and active participant and sponsor of the monthly homeless hub that meets on the Windward side. In addition, an important part of St. John’s ministry over the years has been to reach out and invite those serving in the military on O’ahu, welcoming them as part of our family of faith. In return, we have been richly blessed by their presence and their unique and varied gifts.
MISSION STATEMENT: Living the love of Christ.
VALUES: Our values are grounded in Christian faith, in our biblical and Lutheran confessional sources and our love of God and neighbor.:
