Job Summary and Qualifications

1. Assists with patient care.

  • Escorts patient from the waiting room to exam room.
  • Takes appropriate histories, ROS and obtains sufficient information regarding patient’s medical complaints to optimize the practitioner’s time spent with the patient.
  • Takes appropriate and accurate vital signs (height, weight, pulse, O2 sat, and blood pressure).
  • Asks and records drug allergies.
  • Performs complete medication reconciliation
  • Assists with physicals, exams, and procedures as needed.
  • Completes appropriate paperwork
  • Transport patients to the ER if clinically ill or needed higher level of care.
  • Notifies clinic manager of delays and informs patients of waiting times.

2. Performs laboratory testing.

  • Collects lab tests according to the policies and procedures set forth in the laboratory manual.
  • Performs all specimen collections accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Adheres to laboratory procedures for specimen handling and processing.
  • Reports results to the practitioner.
  • Notifies patients / customers of all laboratory results after review by practitioner.
  • Completes all required documentation for lab testing, and patient medical records.

3. Ensures quality of laboratory services

  • Follows established policies and procedures for quality control performance and documentation.
  • Stock laboratory carts on regular basis.
  • Walk labs to hospital lab for processing.
  • Performs and documents scheduled and unscheduled preventive maintenance.
  • Identifies problems which may adversely affect test/exam performance or reporting of results and takes appropriate action.
  • Complies with all safety, infection control, and OSHA Blood borne pathogen guidelines.
  • Participates in departmental performance improvement programs.

4. Performs testing for physical exam protocols.

  • Performs phlebotomy and injections.
  • Prepares all necessary equipment and supplies in advance of patient and physician arrival.
  • Accurately completes all assessment paperwork and documentation for patient medical record.
  • Sends results to employer client and/or patient as required.
  • Reports abnormal assessment findings to the appropriate contact individuals.

5. Maintains patient medical records.

  • Maintains confidentiality of patient records according to legal requirements.
  • Documents all clinical information, results and patient notification of the proper sections of the chart or electronic health record; writes legibly and dates and initials all entries.
  • Utilizes appropriate forms for recording information.
  • Adheres to standardized organization of patient records.
  • Follows appropriate protocols when discussing medical issues with patients in the clinic and on the phone, handles conversations with patients in a concise manner.

6. Maintains the clinical area.

  • Performs the medical supply inventory including ordering supplies.
  • Performs stocking and cleaning of exam rooms.
  • Maintains the biohazard medical waste management for the clinic.

7. Utilizes personal and professional skills to promote customer relations.

  • Communicates with clinic staff and its customers to ensure quality patient care.
  • Maintains and supports service-oriented relationship with its customers.
  • Strives to maintain a positive work environment.

8. Other miscellaneous duties as assigned.

What qualifications you will need:
  • Basic Cardiac Life Support must be obtained within 30 days of employment start date
  • High School Graduate / GED
  • 1 year of experience required
