Job Summary – About the Role

You will be representing the Park District through interacting with park patrons on a daily basis to address their needs and concerns and work with the police department to resolve safety issues in the Parks and keep buildings and facilities secured and safe for use.

Knowledge, Skills & Experience

This position is well suited for someone with a friendly and positive personality who is productive and shows initiative, is an effective written and oral communicator, is reliable and safety-minded.

Required: Ability to work harmoniously with the public and fellow employees. Knowledge of and the ability to enforce the Park District policies, rules and regulations. Must be able to assess potentially volatile or unsafe situations and determine a course of action. One to three years of supervisory experience in park safety and customer service experience is required. A valid Illinois State Driver’s License is required. Maintain current CPR/AED/First Aid Certification or obtain certification within first month of hire.

Essential Functions of the Position or Role

Park District Cornerstones

• Follow all departmental safety rules that pertain to the duties performed and support all aspects of Park District’s safety and risk management program.
• Work cooperatively and collaboratively with residents, colleagues, the public, PDRMA and other agencies or organizations as delegated.
• Recommends improvements and efficiencies to better accomplish individual and district goals in the best interests of the St. Charles Park District community.
• Comply with park district policies and administrative procedures.
• Effectively communicate both orally and in writing.

Responsibilities

• Enforce Park District ordinances, rules and regulations.
• Cooperate with the St. Charles Police and the Kane County Sheriff to ensure safety in the parks.
• Provide friendly customer assistance to the public, respond to questions and concerns in a positive manner, reflecting credibility upon yourself and the Park District.
• Submit reports to the Superintendent of Parks and Planning, Deputy Director and the Assistant Superintendent of Facilities.
• Patrol all Park District parks and facilities.
• Secure park gates and patrol and lock park facilities.
• Transport and deposit funds collected from park facilities.
• Attend staff and other program related meetings as required.
• Develop training standards and provide training to other safety personnel.
• Investigate and write reports of park incidents and encroachment.
• Assist in the direction and assign work schedules for park guides and part-time staff.
• Maintain records pertaining to park security and safety.
• Maintain high visibility and self-control in any type of situation.
• Respond when available, if services are requested outside of normal business hours. Evening and weekend hours are to be expected in this position.
• Maintain frequent and consistent communication with supervisor and contracted security for seamless transition between shifts.
• Assist in coordination of logistics and public safety as it relates to events.
• Maintain confidentiality regarding incidents and patrons.
• Manage the contracted security contract and employees.
• Assist with key control of Park District keys.

Administrative

• Plan ahead and budget for maintenance repairs that need to be made in the future and keep detailed records of

maintenance schedules.

Supervisory

• Consult with your immediate supervisor, exercise supervisory authority and judgement on an on-going basis related to subordinate employees reporting directly to you, in matters including development of job descriptions, hiring, lay-offs, compensating within approved budgeted parameters and disciplinary action, up to and including termination, in compliance with Park District policies and procedures.
• Exercise independent supervisory authority and judgement on an on-going basis related to subordinate employees reporting directly to you, in matters including, but not limited to employee training, scheduling, assigning, directing and overseeing completion of work assignments and employee performance evaluation.

Marginal Functions of the Position or Role

• Assist with special events.
• Perform all other duties as assigned.
