ORGANIZATIONAL BACKGROUND
From the top of Mount St. Alban, St. Albans School looks up to the Washington National
Cathedral and out to the United States Capitol. Our location serves as an embodiment and
constant reminder of the School’s motto: Pro Ecclesia et Pro Patria, for Church and Country. The
school was established in 1909 by the Protestant Episcopal Cathedral Foundation. Our mission
is to prepare boys in grades 4 through 12 to develop and use their spiritual, intellectual, artistic,
and physical gifts not for themselves alone, but in service of the greater community. As an

JOB DESCRIPTION
Reporting to the Director of Annual & Leadership Giving, the Development Associate works to
raise unrestricted support for St. Albans to meet Annual Giving goals. The Development
Associate has primary responsibility for coordinating all areas of Annual Giving communication
and marketing, database management, donor relations, and stewardship. The Development
Associate partners with alumni relations and major gift officers to develop activities and
integrated processes in support of annual giving, striving to utilize donor pipeline/top Annual
Fund prospects as resources for regional event hosts, panel members, building volunteer pool,
etc. This position will periodically meet with alumni and parents to survey, enlist, and manage
program volunteers engaged in annual fund efforts.
Specifically, areas of responsibilities will include:
Marketing
. Manages the Annual Giving mailing calendar.. Coordinates, prepares, and mails all solicitation letters and other written and electronic
communications to constituents.. Organizes and helps staff the Alumni phone-a-thons in the fall and spring.. Directs the creative and production aspects of video content, newsletters, Annual Giving
web site, social media, channels and donor profiles.
Gift Processing, Donor Relations and Stewardship
. Assists with gift processing consisting of sorting, scanning and formatting of all incoming
gifts.
. Manages the Annual Giving donor acknowledgement process.. Works with donors and their employers to ensure timely fulfillment of all matching gifts
contribution requests.. Coordinates the preparation and production of the Preliminary Annual Report and the
Annual Report.. Coordinates with Special Events to plan and execute Annual Giving volunteer cultivation
and stewardship events.. Acts as the primary point-of-contact for alumni volunteers, managing the process of
reporting to volunteers and staff on a regular basis.. Serves as liaison with Special Events for all events including the Headmaster’s Associates
Reception, Reunion Weekend, Volunteer Christmas Party, and Alumni and Parent
Dinners.
. Works with Special Events to plan and execute alumni phone-a-thon.. Manages donor and volunteer stewardship components including thank-you gifts and
letters and giving society recognition.
Fundraising
. Works closely with the Director and Associate Director of Alumni Relations and the
alumni staff to plan, implement and evaluate to School’s Reunion Giving Program.
. Directs the fundraising activity for Non-Reunion Decade Captain classes.
a. Helps decade captains recruit class agents within their decade.
b. Communicates regularly with decade captains to report on classes progress.
. Directs fundraising activity for Grandparents, Friends, and Faculty/Staff.
a. Recruits and manages volunteers for the specific constituencies.
b. Ensures that each constituency has a solicitation strategy.
. Makes the discovery, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship visits necessary to meet
stated fundraising goals.
Administrative, Departmental Support
. Provides administrative and clerical support to the Director of Annual & Leadership
Giving as needed, including routine administrative tasks such as responding to inquiries,
general office filing, and ordering supplies.
. Participates as a member of the Department’s administrative support team to provide
assistance within the Development Office, as directed by the Director of Annual &
Leadership Giving.
. Attends and provides support to major department-organized events including, but not
limited to, the Headmaster’s Associates Reception, Homecoming, Reunions, and Parent
Dinners.
Other. Actively seeks opportunities for professional development.. Helps promote a culture of philanthropy at St. Albans, furthering the understanding of
philanthropy among all School constituents (board members, administrative leadership,
faculty, staff, parents, alumni, parents of alumni, grandparents, and friends).
. Is an active and visible participant in the life of St. Albans School.
The position may perform other related duties as assigned. The omission of specific duties does
not preclude the supervisor from assigning duties that are logically related to the position.

Experience: All candidates will be considered, but preference will be given to candidates
with experience in development and fundraising.
Education: Bachelor’s degree
