The Administrator-in-Training (AIT) is responsible for following a course of training and job responsibilities as prescribed by the facility in accordance with current applicable federal, state and local standards, guidelines and regulations and as directed by the Administrator. During the course of training, the AIT may be responsible for ad hoc project work and supervision of departmental activities selected by the Administrator/Preceptor or designee.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Under the direction of the Preceptor:
1. Explores Core Competencies necessary to successfully pass licensure examinations and develop a full understanding of the practice of Nursing Home Administration, including:
a. Patient/Resident Care and Quality of Life
b. Human Resource Management
c. Finance
d. Physical Environment
e. Laws, Regulations and the Survey Preparedness
f. Community Relations & Business Development
g. Organizational Management, Leadership and Culture
2. Maintains responsibility for tracking progress towards completing the Core Competency Developmental Modules and manages progress to ensure successful completion on a timeline agreed upon with the preceptor.
3. Completes quarterly progress reports and other assessment/evaluation reports as required by this Program and in a timely manner.
4. Assists through self-assessment in identifying unmet training needs.
5. Maintains confidentiality of all information shared by the preceptor, mentors and employees.
6. Personally experiences the work of each facility position by “shadowing” employees throughout the various disciplines and functions.
7. Prepares reports in a timely manner.
8. Maximizes the learning, reading textbook assignments and other resources prior to going to each assigned department.
9. Develops leadership skills necessary to manage a complex organization, including:
a. Systems Thinking
b. Flexibility/Adaptability
c. Creative Thinking
d. Personal Mastery, Continuous Learning/Self-Development
