Position Description: SUMMARY OF POSITION The Assistant Group Leader will partner with a Group Leader in a group of 20 children organized by grade levels K-5. The Assistant Group leader will support the Group Leader in teaching, nurturing and encouraging our children to perform at a high standard by setting a positive, engaging and fun tone. The Assistant Group Leader will support with planning and leading quality project based activities. The Assistant Group Leader will help to ensure the safety of students at all times; helping to anticipate and resolve conflict; assisting the Group Leader with reporting all incidents accurately and on time. The Assistant Group Leader will help supervise snack and homework time; maintaining the overall condition of the classroom; collaborating with the Group Leader, other after-school staff and teachers; interacting with parents at dismissal; and participating in staff meetings and workshops. This position reports to the Group Leader and Program Director. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Supporting program systems including attendance, incentives, safety procedures, special events, etc. (for example, monitoring participants during arrival and transitions and ensuring that participants have properly signed out and exited the building from program Support Group Leaders with managing participants in a positive and supportive manner Provide other administrative support for the program as delegated by Program Director or Assistant Program Director Punctuality, dependability, and professional communication are highly important for the successful operation of the program Participating in staff meetings and other trainings required Assist Group Leader in daily management of students Assisting children with homework, enrichment & recreation activities & performances Ensure that program areas are neat and clean; put away equipment and supplies. Build positive relationships with youth and adults Serve as a role model with respect to demeanor, communication and behavior. Be active and engaging with participants. Diploma Preferred but not required Energetic, Willing to learn, Positive Role Model, Punctual, Creative, Able to follow directions. Able to commit for entire school year (Sept-June) At least 18yrs or older. Background in Visual Arts, Computers or Performing Arts is a Plus. Must successfully Pass DOH (Dept. of Health) State Fingerprint Clearance Must successfully Pass SCR (Statewide Central Registry Clearance) Must successfully Pass SEL (Staff Exclusion List Clearance) Must have an up to date medical within the last 6 months incl. TB Shot LANGUAGE SKILLS Possess the ability to read, analyze and interpret Program Manual, Daily Program Updates and SACC Regulations Ability to effectively respond to questions from groups of managers, students, and parents. Possess the Ability to understand Basic/Intermediate K-5 ELA (Spelling, Definitions, Sentences, and Word Stories). MATHEMATICAL SKILLS Knowledgeable of Basic/Intermediate K-5 Math (Division, Multiplication, Fractions, Graphs, Problem Solving Math Sentences) REASONING ABILITY Ability to solve practical problems and ask questions when assistance is needed. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. Possess the ability to use discretion and exhibit high level of confidentiality. PHYSICAL DEMANDS Ability to perform physical sport-based activities such as run relays, softball, stretching, and incorporate active movement throughout supervision.
