Job Summary:
The lead HVAC mechanic will provide the professional and technical expertise necessary to service and maintain HVAC mechanical equipment in a large K-12 educational environment. The work includes, but is not limited to, repairing, troubleshooting, installing, adjusting and replacing, boilers for heating and domestic hot water, chillers, air handlers, exhaust fans, DX and rooftop package units, heat recovery units and a wide range of refrigeration equipment, without supervision. The lead HVAC mechanic will receive instructions, work order assignments and directions from the HVAC department head and will assist others with the installation, maintenance, and repair, of HVAC equipment as needed. The lead HVAC mechanic will possess a thorough knowledge of complex commercial HVAC equipment and refrigeration systems including refrigerators, walk-in freezers and ice machines and a fundamental knowledge of basic equipment control devices as, overloads, relays, contactors, transformers, starter relays, defrost timers, thermostats, high pressure, low pressure, and oil pressure controls. The lead HVAC mechanic must be knowledgeable and fully capable of utilizing web based building management control systems and applications to properly manage air distribution and provide a consistent level of comfort and equipment efficiency in K-12 educational and support facilities. The lead HVAC Mechanic duties affect the security, safety and the physical operation of the school division and for that reason is considered essential personnel and may perform assignments unrelated to the HVAC trade when requested by the director or supervisor of maintenance.

Education and Experience Required
A high school diploma or equivalent and 5-years of progressively responsible HVAC and refrigeration equipment installation, maintenance and repair experience; or completion of a four year federally approved technical training program in the installation, repair and maintenance of HVAC and refrigeration equipment and 3-years of HVAC and refrigeration installation, maintenance and repair experience; or any combination of experience and/or education from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved.
