Perform the day-to-day processing of accounts payable transactions in an effective, timely, and accurate manner

Species360 is a unique blend of a software company, a non-profit organization, and a global leader in wildlife and botanical species care and conservation. We are the predominant non-profit organization serving zoo, aquarium, botanical garden, and related conservation organizations’ animal and plant management needs through our Zoological Information Management System (ZIMS) and Hortis software. Our members and subscribers include over 1,450 diverse institutions worldwide who use our software to record data on wildlife and, more recently, plants. This critical data enables them to provide world-class care for their animals and/or plant collections.

We are seeking an experienced Accounting Associate to work 20 hours per week in partnership with Finance Team members to maintain timely and accurate financial records including accounts payable and receivable, and daily financial entries and reconciliations.

Species360 is headquartered in Minneapolis, Minnesota, and while we embrace a fully remote US workforce strategy, due to the nature of this position, we are seeking candidates from the Twin Cities area or who can easily drive to the Twin Cities to perform administrative work and meet with the Finance Team as needed.

ABOUT THE JOB

The Role: As a part-time Accounting Associate, you will:

Perform the day-to-day processing of accounts payable transactions in an effective, timely, and accurate manner

• Review vendor invoices, enter vendor invoices into QuickBooks, and post them to general ledger
• Prepare wire, ACH, bill pay payment transactions in online systems for approval on a weekly basis
• Maintain on-line storage of vendor invoice and payment documentation
• Reconcile vendor account discrepancies

Perform the day-to-day processing of accounts receivable transactions in an effective, timely and accurate manner

• Create, enter, and distribute invoices for Species360 subscription products and related services
• Enter customer invoice transactions in QuickBooks and Xero accounting software and post them to general ledger
• Monitor financial accounts for payment activities (e.g., check lockbox, wire, ACH, and credit card receipts) and process payment transactions daily

Assist the Director of Finance in purchasing computer hardware

Complete material requests and prepare assigned schedules for the annual financial audit

Produce and maintain appropriate documentation of processes and procedures

What We’ll Love About You – You Have…

• Associate’s Degree and/or technical certifications with major course work in accounting or a related field, preferred
• Two or more years of accounting-related work experience
• Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook, QuickBooks, Xero, and document scanning tools
• Strong mathematical skills and attention to detail with a dedication to accuracy
• Ability to gather data, compile information and prepare reports
• Detail-oriented, organized and effective time management skills
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills, interpersonal relationship-building and customer service skills

Our Part-Time Benefits

We offer generous time off benefits. You start accruing 5 weeks of Paid Time Off (PTO) per year (based on a 20-hour week), which includes holidays, vacation and sick time for maximum employee flexibility. In addition, we provide 10 paid sick days plus 8 weeks of paid parenting leave (based on a 20-hour week).

Part-time employees also receive life, short term and long term disability insurance and can start contributing immediately to our 401(k) plan, which includes a generous employer contribution starting at 3%.

Compensation

The compensation range for this position is $25.00 - $27.00 per hour based on experience.
