Southwest Research Institute is Hiring a LEAD ANALYST - LEAD ENGINEER - PRINCIPAL ENGINEER - Spacecraft Integration and Test Lead Near San Antonio, TX

Who We Are:

The Spacecraft Development Department is a group of innovative engineers, program managers, and technicians developing unique spacecraft solutions for challenging space missions. We design and fabricate custom solutions to explore the boundaries of science or solve complex problems not yet delivered by industry to accommodate a variety of payloads.

Objectives of this Role:
  • This position is for an Integration and Test team lead for spacecraft, instrument, or space hardware projects within the Spacecraft Development Department.
  • The I&T lead serves the Project Manager as the responsible engineer for hardware flow through delivery.
  • The Lead/Principal engineer will be a senior member of the spacecraft team who can help grow I&T capabilities and mentor junior level engineers and technicians.
Daily and Monthly Responsibilities:
  • Develop and document an Integration and Test Plan for an instrument, space hardware or full-up spacecraft project for internal and external customers.
  • Develop work flow and schedules to assemble and test spaceflight hardware within budget and schedule constraints.
  • Perform day-to-day tasking of support engineers, technologists and technicians.
  • Represent the Project as I&T lead in customer meetings and milestone reviews.
  • Plan and support spacecraft delivery to the launch site and launch operations, including early on-orbit check-out.
Requirements:
  • Requires a Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering, Structural Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering or Physics.
  • Shift work required.
  • 10 years: Spacecraft, space instrument or space hardware integration and test experience, including developing and executing test plans and test procedures. Proven track record of meeting hardware deliveries on schedule and budget.
  • 4 years: Integration and Test Leadership. Experience developing work flow and schedules, and tasking engineers and technicians.
  • Knowledgeable of modern aerospace test equipment (multi-meters, oscilloscopes, network analyzers, etc.). Experienced in space hardware environmental testing preferred.
  • Experience working with NASA Centers and Launch Service Providers preferred.
  • A valid/clear driver's license is required.

  • Chemistry and Chemical Engineering-Performing research and technical services using chemistry and chemical engineering technology.
  • Defense and & Intelligence Solutions-Providing advanced direction finding and tracking systems through geolocation system development.
  • Fuels and Lubricants Research-Performing fuels and lubricants research activities to meet regulatory and competitive goals.
  • Intelligent Systems-Providing engineering services in resaerch and development of complex systems and equipment.
  • Mechanical Engineering-Improving safety, reliability, efficiency and life of new or existing mechanical components or systems.
  • Powertrain Engineering-Designing and developing vehicle and engine components to achieve performance and emissions goals.
  • Space Science & Engineering-Developing and managing advanced scientific payloads aboard satellites and sounding rockets.
