Medical Assistant- Job Description

Summary:

As a Medical Assistant you will work in the back of SWFA/DFW practice handling patient procedures and other duties for the physicians as needed. The Medical Assistant will assist in minor procedures/surgeries, sterilize instruments, set up and manage exam rooms. Also, responsible for resolving issues related to patient concerns, and patient files and might perform other duties, as required.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Bring patients to room
  • Assist physician in the room
  • Assist in minor surgeries
  • Clean & stock exam rooms
  • Sterilize instruments
  • Prepare requisitions for biopsies and blood work
  • Discuss patient results
  • Manage patient calls and questions
  • Complete Medical Records Requests
  • Perform other duties as assigned by Physician or Practice Manager

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Ability to comply with all legal compliance
  • Familiar with remittance advice reason codes
  • Understands Local Coverage Determination (LCD) both Medicare and Commercial specifically- podiatry
  • Be able to complete procedures including injections
  • Know all medical terminology- podiatry
  • Communicates with the medical staff, personnel and other as needed of important billing practices.
  • Must have superior verbal communication, knowledge of infection control, ability to create a safe, effective environment, organization, scheduling, professionalism, customer focus, confidentiality, and medical teamwork

Job Duties:

  • Arrives to work on time and ready to work.
  • Assist in implementing the day-to-day functions of the practice.
  • Follows all policies and procedures that govern the accounting functions of the SWFA/DFW centers.
  • Assure that patient information records are appropriately filed
  • Make written and oral reports/recommendations to the Practice Manager/Physician
  • Perform secretarial functions as necessary or directed.
  • Perform functions of computer as necessary or directed.
  • Data entry on all patient diagnosis or treatments
  • Report any needs to the Practice Manager/Physician
  • Patient Rights Maintain CONFIDENTIALITY of all patient and practice information.
  • Assure that the patient’s rights to fair and equitable treatment, self-determination, individuality, privacy, property and civil rights including the right to wage complaints are well-established and maintained at all times.

Required Education/Certificates & Experience:

  • Certificate or associate's degree program in medical assistant through the American
  • Health Information Management Association (AHIMA).
  • Podiatry experience required.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $15.00 - $20.00 per hour

Expected hours: No more than 40 per week
