Position Summary:
Human Resource Services is responsible for developing, implementing, and administering a wide range of personnel programs within the guidelines provided by State and Federal regulations. Human Resources supports institutional goals by providing consultative services on staff recruitment and employment, classification and compensation, benefits and leaves, employee and labor relations, training and development, and the fundamental application of policies and procedures.
While reporting to the Senior HR Generalist and working under general supervision, the HR Generalist requires an on-campus presence that models service excellence daily to all customers seeking comprehensive personnel program guidance. The position applies sound judgement in resolving complex analytical and administrative issues in support of HR operations, onboarding, and the processing of employment actions. This position will also take direction and receive guidance and support from the Director of Human Resources and all time and attendance requests will be determined by the Director of Human Resources to ensure operational needs are met.
Minimum Qualifications:
Equivalent to graduation from a four-year college or university and two years of progressively responsible experience in human resources or similar field. A graduate degree in a related field may be substituted for one year of the required experience. Additional qualifying experience may be substituted for the required education on a year-for-year basis. Excellent facilitation skills, including large group facilitation. Demonstrated experience developing and delivering presentations and facilitating meetings concerning complex content
Preferred Qualification :
Experience in human resources management. Demonstrated skills in an institutional/educational environment utilizing a customer-oriented and service-centered attitude. Successful experience working in higher education, preferably in a collective bargaining environment. Working knowledge of web-based recruiting, onboarding and position management systems.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Strong human relations and interpersonal skills including collaboration, professionalism and demonstrated consultative skills conducive to building and maintaining positive relations with administrators, co-workers, staff, faculty and students.
Initiative in independently planning, organizing, and performing work assignments within broadly defined parameters. Excellent organizational and time management skills with the ability to set own priorities to successfully coordinate multiple assignments with fluctuating and time-sensitive deadlines.
Excellent communication skills; ability to effectively communicate information in a clear and understandable manner, both verbally and in writing.
Demonstrated customer service experience requiring a very high level of diplomacy and professionalism to effectively handle a broad range of sensitive interpersonal situations. Present ideas and concepts in written and presentation format and use consultative and facilitation skills to gain consensus in a collegial manner. Ability to write clear and concise reports and correspondence.
Ability to take direction and be an effective team player.
Ability to gain an experiential foundation in human resources theories, principles, concepts, practices, and techniques. General knowledge of methods and problems of organization management.
Ability to develop, research, interpret, evaluate, implement and articulate complex personnel policies, collective bargaining regulations state and federal laws, rules, standards, procedures and policies pertinent to the professional operations of human resources.
Experience developing and delivering presentations.
Strong analytical and research skills; ability to gather, evaluate, and to develop well-reasoned conclusions and recommendations that are logical and defendable. Experience extracting, interpreting and compiling qualitative and quantitative data.
Ability to proactively assess work operations and anticipate potential problems; ability to develop and implement strategies for preventing/resolving problems.
Ability to effectively perform work of a highly sensitive and confidential nature that requires access to information. Ability to exercise sound judgment and discretion, tact, and diplomacy.
Ability to coordinate several personnel functions and determine the relative importance of each; ability to work with a high level of productivity and accuracy/attention to detail.
Ability to analyze software functionality through technical documents, and design and document efficient/effective work processes; ability to independently analyze software problems, test probable causes, and recommend sound solutions.
Excellent computer skills and proficiency with a variety of computer applications including word-processing, spreadsheets, databases, online systems, social media platforms, Internet as well as online calendaring and email.
Ability to initiate, establish, and foster communication and teamwork by maintaining a positive, cooperative, productive work atmosphere in and outside the University with the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships within a diverse population and with those from various cultural backgrounds.
Ability to adapt to and work effectively in a heavily bureaucratic environment which requires regular interaction with a number of level within the organization and multiple outside agencies.
Working knowledge, or ability to quickly learn, university infrastructure, policies and procedures.
Provides training and direction to student assistants.

Special Conditions
Must be willing to travel and attend training programs off-site for occasional professional development.
Must be able to work additional hours and adjust working hours to meet special jobs. May be called back periodically to perform work as needed on an emergency basis.
Must be able to successfully pass a pre-employment background check.

  • Position classification defined as "exempt" are not subject overtime
  • Position classifications defined as "non exempt" are *subject to overtime
