Position Summary:
Southern Oregon University (SOU) is looking for an experienced, analytical, and results oriented professional to fill the position of Advancement Services Manager. This position is responsible for the daily operation of the Advancement Services department, primarily working with the advancement data system (The Raiser's Edge), which tracks gift/financial and biographical information on alumni, friends, and donors. This position focuses on data management; data retrieval and reporting; gift entry and acknowledgement; data security; and other day-to-day functions of advancement services. The Advancement Services Manager must be able to successfully balance multiple priorities, provide excellent service to staff and donors, and demonstrate strong analytical skills. Further, the Advancement Services Manager will be expected to have strong project management and communication skills. Assignments will be varied and shifting of priorities to meet business demands should be expected. Additionally, this is a key position to analyze trends, help to improve systems and performance, and effectively implement procedures to support the growth, development, and retention of donors and alumni.
Reporting to the Director of Advancement Services, the individual in this role works closely with each member of SOU's development team.
Minimum Qualifications:
BA/BS in Business Administration, Management, Finance or MIS, plus minimum 2 years of related experience OR 3-5 years of experience performing equivalent functions
Demonstrated experience with relational database design, function and analysis
Preferred Qualification :
Experience with Raisers Edge/Raisers Edge NXT
Experience with Crystal Reports
Knowledge of fund development and events planning process
Demonstrated skills in an institutional/educational environment utilizing a customer-oriented and service centered attitude.
Experience with Banner (HRIS)
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Excellent communication skills; ability to effectively communicate information in a clear and understandable manner.
Ability to work with a high level of productivity and accuracy/attention to detail.
Excellent organizational and time management skills with the ability to set own priorities to coordinate multiple assignments with fluctuating, conflicting, and time-sensitive deadlines.
Ability to initiate, establish, and foster communication and teamwork by maintaining a positive, cooperative, productive work atmosphere in and outside the University with the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships within a diverse population and with those from various cultural backgrounds.
Ability to adapt to and work effectively in a heavily bureaucratic environment which requires regular interaction with a number of levels within the organization.
Working knowledge, or ability to quickly learn, university infrastructure, policies and procedures.
Knowledge of gift processing and stewardship policies and procedures, including IRS regulations. Organization, prioritization, judgment, discretion and problem-solving skills.
Ability to work independently
Excellent computer skills and proficiency with a variety of computer applications including word-processing, spreadsheets, and databases.
A comprehensive understanding of Advancement Services as a functional area, including gift processing, stewardship, donor relations, customer service, prospect management, information security, and data maintenance
Ability to understand alumni and development database structures, database development, and database management
Understanding of the confidential nature of fund raising efforts and donor information.
Demonstrated customer service experience requiring a very high level of diplomacy and professionalism to effectively handle a broad range of sensitive interpersonal situations.

Special Conditions
Must be willing to travel and attend training programs off-site for occasional professional development.
Must be able to work additional hours and adjust working hours to meet special jobs. May be called back periodically to perform work as needed on an emergency basis.

  • Position classification defined as "exempt" are not subject overtime
The person holding this position is considered a "mandated reporter" under the Oregon Revised Statues and is required to comply with the requirements set forth by the Oregon department of Human Services.
This position is funded by gifts/self support/soft money and renewal of appointment is
contingent upon continued funding. Should a loss in funding occur, employees whose appointments are funded by gift/self support/soft money source may be terminated without notice.
