POSITION SUMMARY The Adult Education instructor works under general supervision and is responsible for instructing students in the classroom. This position is governed by agency/institution policy.All SAU Tech employees are expected to demonstrate excellence in interpersonal behaviors and be committed to effective collaboration with colleagues. Essential Functions Statement(s) Maintain positive attitude and working relationships with clients, other agencies, and co-workersDemonstrates professionalism by reporting to work as required, follow supervisor’s instruction and demonstrates a spirit of cooperation, support, respect, and loyalty to supervisor; honors chain of commandMaintain student confidentialityExplain program rules and procedures to students, either individually or as a group; have students sign student contractExplain purpose for testing and test results to student; discuss student goals and create an individualized plan toward meeting those goals; evaluate progress and adjust plan as neededProvide instruction for all eligible students pursuing the WAGE™, Secondary School Equivalent, Career Readiness Certificate (CRC), Adult Secondary Education (ASE), Adult Basic Education (ABE), GED Preparation, Integrated Education and Training (IET)/short-term training, English as a Second Language (ESL), and other Adult Education services for students assigned to the classroom.Create an engaging and interactive classroomDevelop and/or create curriculum and lesson plans for classes and participate in the development of new classes or programsAssign appropriate materials to help each student meet his or her goals, supplementing or finding alternate materials/instructional methods as needed based on learner goals, reflection and feedback, assessment results, and instructor observationInstruct individual, small group, or large group lessons as needed or directedCopy materials for students to study or day-to-day record maintenance, as needed Use a variety of instructional strategies and tools appropriate to the needs of the learner including individual and group instructionOversee students working on computers and help with computer problems, as neededMaintain records on students, especially WAGE and Secondary School Equivalent, to ensure all have met the criteria needed before completing their goalsMaintain student classroom folders in an orderly manner and use the folder sticker to indicate completed requirementsMaintain classroom discipline; classroom management; monitor breaks, as neededMaintain and monitor attendance records daily and\or weekly to ensure students are assessed in a timely mannerSubmit attendance records (sign in sheets) to appropriate personnel in a timely mannerEnsure correct retest is given and that required attendance is correct before retestingWork with paraprofessional/volunteers in the classroomEnsure materials are relevant and available to aid in student progressMaintain student records needed for court reports and submit court reports as requested by court personnelContinuously evaluate class performance and provide input on program improvementWork with Career Coach to recruit and retain students in the programKeep professionally up-to-date in areas of instruction and complete required professional development hours. Participate in relevant professional development activities as set forth in professional development plan.Apply research, knowledge, and skills from professional development opportunities to improve teaching practice in classroom.Provide data and information for program reports as needed for meetings as requestedAttend state meetings/trainings, local meetings, and events as requiredHelp train new employeesActively participate in recruitment activities as required and retention activities as stated in the retention policyCross train in all programs to be familiar with requirements and to be able to help students reach their goalsAdhere to all program policiesPerform other duties as assigned
SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION
This is a grant-funded position based on funding through Arkansas Adult Education Section for the Adult Basic Education (ABE), Direct & Equitable funds (D&E), and General Adult Education funds (GAE).
