Description

While the services of the identified Career Coaches will be available to any Arkansan, the College and Career Coaches will specifically target those adults who are most in need of career planning. The Career Coach will assist students with transition services such as exploring careers, goal setting, job search skills, resume preparation, completing a job application, interview skills, referring participants to Adult Basic Education instructors or other staff for testing, entering post-secondary and training, and apprenticeship programs, and provide resources such as student information packets, transition guides and recruitment materials. This individual is also responsible for connecting clients to resources such as transportation, childcare, housing, counseling, etc., and will ensure students are provided a continuum of services to span adult education instruction to GED (General Educational Development) graduation to post-secondary education and the workforce.

Examples of Duties

Essential Functions Statement(s)
•Plan and host events and activities to promote and recruit participants into the Adult Education program; Develop and distribute promotional materials to partners to assist in outreach and recruitment
•Interview, assess, and assist clients with educational assistance, job search, and placement assistance.
•Provide interest inventories and skills assessments to assist individuals in making informed career decisions.
•Facilitate the development of individual career plans and portfolios.
•Provide information on careers, career pathways, and educational requirements.
•Provide outreach services to students with information about the importance of postsecondary education or training programs, as well as accurate information on how to prepare, apply, and pay for it.
•Provide opportunities for job shadowing, mentoring, internships, visits to business and industry and other career awareness activities.
•Connect educationally disadvantaged youth and adults to "bridge programs" that teach basic academic skills in the context of training for advancement to better jobs and postsecondary education.
•Coordinate and conduct weekly workshops on job readiness such as interview skills, resume preparation, application completion, dress for success and other soft skills workshop.
•Provide case management services to all students.
•Provide follow-up services and help track students for manual outcomes
•Establish and foster relationships with community partners and faith based organizations to enhance the program
•Administer standardized and official testing for students and perform intake/orientation procedures
•Maintain program and community resource directory
•Maintain student files
•Cross train in all programs to be familiar with requirements and to be able to help students reach their goals
•Serve as recruiter for the program and visit other locations one per week.
•Assist in other areas of Adult Education as needed.
•Performs related responsibilities as required or assigned by supervisor.
Minimum/Preferred Qualifications

Education: Bachelor's Degree
Experience: Demonstrated knowledge and abilities in academic and skills assessment methods; federal/state grant management; labor market information and career development strategies, mentoring or advising, experience in training and/or outreach activities.
Two to three years of experience in case management assisting clients to help them reach their educational and/or employment goals. Collaboration with business and industry and community organizations a plus. Must be detailed oriented, organized, outgoing, and the ability to communicate with a broad diverse and population.
Computer Skills: MS Office and ability to type at least 45-50 wpm
Certifications & Licenses: Must obtain Career Services Provider (CSP) certification within one year of hire date.
Other Requirements: Highly motivated and able to work with minimal direct supervision. Excellent computer skills with a strong background in Work, PowerPoint, and Excel. Have excellent interpersonal and organizational skills. Ability to communicate effectively orally, in writing and in public presentation settings.
Supplemental Information

This is a grant-funded position based on funding through Arkansas Adult Education Section for the Adult Basic Education (ABE), Direct & Equitable funds (D&E), and General Adult Education funds (GAE). In the event funding for this project is discontinued, your employment with SAU Tech will be reviewed immediately.
