Instructor/Associate Director of Bands

Southeastern Oklahoma State University's department of Music invites applications for the position of Instructor/Associate Director of Bands. This position will be a non-tenured, 10-month appointment. The successful candidate will conduct the University Band and Jazz Band, assist with the Marching Band, and teach undergraduate and graduate courses in music education.

The successful candidate will work with the Director of Bands to meet departmental and university needs, conduct the University Band and Jazz Band, assist with the Marching Band, write marching band drill, teach undergraduate and graduate courses in music education, collaborate with colleagues on instrumental recruitment and outreach, and other courses/duties as assigned by the Chair of the Department of Music. This position also requires service on departmental committees, attendance at faculty meetings, and some night and weekend obligations.

The candidate must have a master’s degree, a minimum 3 years of secondary teaching experience (band), at least one degree in music education, experience writing marching band drill, teaching jazz band, and the ability to teach courses online are required. Preference will be given to candidates with a completed doctorate, additional years of secondary teaching experience (band), and experience teaching at the university level (graduate teaching assistant experience may count toward this requirement). Preference will be given to candidates who have experience working in a regional setting with a student population from varying socio-economic and education backgrounds. Additionally, preference will be given to candidates who are prepared to invest in the goals and mission of the Department of Music and Southeastern Oklahoma State University.

Student enrollment is approximately 5,500 students and the campus is situated in rural Oklahoma. The main campus is located in Durant, Oklahoma, which is 90 miles north of Dallas, Texas, and 150 miles southeast of Oklahoma City.
