Somerville Public Schools is Hiring a 23-24 Human Resource Generalist Near Somerville, MA

Job Goal: The Human Resource Generalist will work closely with other HR staff to ensure an efficient and seamless onboarding experience and a welcoming atmosphere for new hires, school administrators, and all school personnel.


Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred, or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience;
  • Minimum of five (5) years of experience in an office and/or professional setting, with experience in human resources;
  • Minimum of three (3) years of office experience in a supervisory or management role;
  • Experience with HRIS system(s), PowerSchool a plus;
  • Strong knowledge of MS Excel, MS Word, and Google Workspace;
  • Ability to streamline and simplify reports and processes;
  • Excellent oral, written, and listening skills;
  • Accurate data entry is required;
  • Ability to multitask and set priorities for self, and manage time to achieve goals/complete projects on or ahead of schedule;
  • Ability to work effectively with a diverse group of individuals; and
  • High level of integrity and confidentiality.

Responsibilities:


The HR Generalist is responsible for but not limited to the following:

  • Work collaboratively with the HR Director(s) on overall functions of the HR Department;
  • Mentor and manage new HR office staff;
  • Review and process all personnel transactions;
  • Ensure completion of all necessary employment paperwork and other related documents required by federal law;
  • Work collaboratively with the Payroll Department regarding school employee transactions and new employee hires;
  • Work with Administrators in different capacities, including in the absence of the Director and Assistant Director;
  • Process/follow up with unemployment claims per deadlines and protest benefit claims/hearings;
  • Recruit for the school district:
    • Coordinate and attend university career fairs
  • Maintain paperless Applicant Tracking and Records system;
  • Responsible for the implementation of new HR technology;
  • Be involved in employee investigations as needed;
  • Work collaboratively with the Educational Data Analyst and Director of Technology to successfully process EPIMS reporting, EPIMS data entry, and final processing of any errors;
  • Generate MEPID numbers in DESE and upload them into the HRDB database;
  • Coordinate New Educator Orientations;
  • Generate Monthly School Personnel Transaction report for Administrators and City Staff;
  • Assist the HR Director(s) with data collecting for various projects throughout the year; and
  • Complete other HR responsibilities as assigned.

The LaRue PR Academy provides invaluable internship opportunities for a group of seniors during the after school hours.
