Soltage is Hiring a Director of Project Management Near Jersey, NJ

OverviewSoltage is a leader in the development, financing, and operation of distributed utility-scale solar and storage assets for commercial, industrial, municipal, and utility customers across the United States. Soltage has developed more than 125 solar energy projects, with more than 500MW total distributed generating capacity and invested over $1.5 Billion to date into the US clean energy sector. Soltage is backed by Igneo Infrastructure Partners, a global infrastructure investment manager, and is headquartered in Jersey City New Jersey.
Position ExpectationsSoltage is seeking an experienced Director level, renewables project management professional with a strong, proven background in project management processes and strategies in addition to people management skills. This position will oversee the Soltage team that leads the development and construction of small to medium size, solar photovoltaic (PV), energy storage systems (ESS), and photovoltaic plus energy storage systems (PV BESS) projects. The Director of Project Management will be integral to building Soltage’s pipeline of renewables projects.
Specific Job FunctionsThe Director of Project Management will be instrumental in helping to manage the project portfolio lifecycle needs including the existing Soltage project pipeline, and to help expand the Soltage storage footprint in the Northeast urban centers, Mid-Atlantic, Midwest, and Southwest, and other emerging markets in the US. The role will have cross-functional interaction with Development, Engineering, M&A, Finance and Operations teams.
In addition to team management experience, the successful candidate will be well versed in EPC contract negotiation and execution, construction oversight, team management, risk management, procurement of Owner provided materials, managing schedules to achieve completion milestones and deadlines, creating and managing the project budget while maintaining industry standard quality and safety. The candidate will need to be comfortable managing internal and external financial reporting including project budget, cash management, pay applications, and payment schedule to be reported on a regular basis weekly.
The work will include efforts in the following activity areas:
  • Define and develop Project Management best practices, processes, and policy to ensure alignment with corporate strategy and goals. Define and consult on measurement strategies, tools, scorecards, and surveys across organization.
  • Act as a leader within the company by collaborating across multiple internal organizational teams including Finance, Project Development, Asset Management, Engineering, and Operations to provide expertise for successful project management execution.
  • Build the team and provide leadership and oversight for day-to-day tasks and operations for the project management team and contracted 3rd party resources
  • Ensure internal personnel and external partners adhere to all safety requirements, embodying a Safety-First culture
  • Ensures that effective project management governance, procedures, tools, and financial controls are established and maintained.
  • Build the skills of the project management organization to include strong program and project governance and delivery skills.
  • Set department priorities, communicate progress, and ensure ongoing alignment to the organization's strategic objectives.
  • Solve complex problems that deviate from established procedures, in coordination with other Company departments.
  • Champion continuous process improvement related to a wide range of business services, methodology and project processes to reduce cost, improve quality and service levels for the development of the Companies projects.
  • Supervise and manage the preparation of EPC contracts, procurement contracts, scope of work / statement of services and the evaluation and awarding of contracts to engineering firms, consultants, vendors, and EPC partners dealing with company projects.
  • Support tax equity and debt financing due diligence.
  • Support design optimization for early-stage projects (modeling, cost estimates, and project schedules). Develop consensus on optimal system design, construction, and operational approaches.
  • Build strategic relationships with equipment and services suppliers and perform as key point of contact within Soltage
  • Maintain feedback loop with development, and operations teams to ensure issues are documented and considered for future projects.
  • Conduct manufacturing facility and construction site visits to ensure proper QA/QC measures are followed on procured equipment.
  • Attending industry events and representing Soltage to the industry in a professional capacity.
  • Travel as needed to various potential project sites throughout the United States to evaluate existing equipment / future equipment needs, project management compliance and quality assurance.
Experience And Education Requirements
  • Candidates must be authorized to work in the United States and hold Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, or construction management from an accredited university.
  • Alternative acceptable degrees include project management, economics, business, finance, energy, or related disciplines.
The Candidate Must Have
  • 6 years of demonstrated leadership experience in Project Management or Maintenance management, especially for complex assets in the electric or energy sector.
  • General understanding of the ESS storage and solar PV construction process, understanding of EPC obligations and requirements as well as OSHA and other federal, state, and local safety practices.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills in English and be a team player with strong interpersonal skills. The candidate must be able to successfully interface with all employee levels including company executives and board members. Additionally, they will have strong consultant management / negotiation skills and be comfortable in sometimes contentious management settings. Must be self-motivated with an ability to balance multiple projects under tight deadlines without supervision.
  • Exemplary organizational skills and process orientation and project management skills - be able to coordinate and prioritize numerous important tasks, as well as proactively identify and address potential issues in a fast-paced work environment
  • Working knowledge of Project Management or Project Engineering Principles, ideally with PMP certification.
  • Strong math and problem-solving skills, with the ability to develop complex analyses and perform independent research.
  • Strong familiarity with evaluating supplier proposals and converting costs into energy unit-based pricing (i.e., $/kWh, $/W).
  • Ability to travel throughout the United States.
  • Familiarity of construction techniques and installation practices.
  • Familiarity with medium and low voltage electrical systems and components.
  • Working knowledge and ability to read electrical design, construction drawings and specifications.
  • Experience with writing proposals, managing project timelines and comfortable presenting to, and interacting with suppliers, consultants, authorities with jurisdiction, and utilities.
  • A successful candidate will have a high level of proficiency in the use of computer applications including proficiency in the Microsoft Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project, and Outlook). Ideally, the candidate will be proficient with AutoCAD.
Location:This position will be staffed out of Soltage’s headquarters in Jersey City, NJ.
