THE POSITION
The Special Education Coordinator is an integral part of the schools instructional leadership team and is responsible for overseeing programs that provide educational assistance to children with mental, psychological, learning, behavioral, or physical disabilities.
With specialized expertise in the instruction of students with special learning needs within and outside the general education environment, the Coordinator collaborates with the site administrator / s, Special Education Department and teachers to ensure that the needs of all students with IEPs are met.
The Coordinator works under the direction of the school site principal to develop a comprehensive suite of resources and processes for the identification, placement, and support of students across the spectrum of academic ability.
In addition, the Special Education Coordinator will maintain and monitor special education data for the school site.
THE RESPONSIBILITIES
Maintain and develop knowledge of current local, CA State, and Federal Special Education laws, regulations, policies, and best practices
Provide professional development, coaching, consultation, and resources to special education teachers regarding the Least Restrictive Environment, curriculum, and procedures.
Analyze multiple sources of data including informal and formal assessments to drive instruction and IEP development
Coordinate and facilitate IEP meetings in a collaborative and professional manner. and translate meetings when necessary
Support general education teachers and administrators in the implementation of appropriate strategies and accommodations eto meet the needs of students with IEPs
Create and maintain Special Education documentation as required by federal, state, district, and CMO regulations
Develop and assist with appropriate behavior management techniques for students with special needs
Mentor Resource Specialists (education specialists) at assigned school sites.
Manage the schools caseload and / or provide guidance to education specialists at the site on the development of Individual Education Programs in accordance with federal, state, and district standards
Ensure IEP timeline compliance of caseload
Manage relationships with outside vendors to ensure students receive all related services according to student IEPs. (i.
e. Occupational Therapy, Language and Speech, etc.)
Manage relationships with outside vendors to ensure assessments are completed according to legal timelines and reports are written and presented in a legally defensible manner (i.
e. Psychologists, SLPs, School Nurses, etc) Develop positive relationships with parents and families in order to engage them in meaningful participation throughout the IEP process and keep them updated on student progress
Provide consultation support and resources for the Response to intervention (RTI) and Student Success Team (SST) process
Manage and / or assist with the development of 504 plans at the assigned site
Other duties / projects as assigned by a school administrator
Oversee Special Education Data Systems
Analyze achievement data to identify special education programs and service needs.
Manage, maintain, and monitor compliance in the school's IEP caseload in the districts data management program (i.e. SEIS) and update the district's Student Information System (i.
e. Powerschool) accordingly. Track and monitor grades, and other achievement data for students in the special education program
Assist with other duties as assigned.
Contribute to the School Community
Seek opportunities, both individually and through school-based initiatives, to build strong and collaborative relationships with faculty, staff, families, and scholars.
Actively engage in Soleil and externally provided professional development.
Prepare for and attend up to five (5) evening scholar, parent, or other school events that do not exceed more than three (3) hours per event, including Report Card Nights, Open Houses, Scholar Exhibitions, etc.
Serve actively on at least one (1) School-established action committee during the school year.
Attend all faculty and professional development meetings.
Maintain consistent and meaningful communication with parents.

Support Soleils aspiration to prepare all scholars to have the foundation necessary for college success.
Support with classroom discipline aligned to the school-wide behavior management policy and keep documentation of all interventions taken to manage scholar behavior.
Adhere to policies and procedures as outlined in the Soleil Employee Handbook.
Ensure timely and high-quality submission of school requirements such as intellectual preparation, unit plans, and re-teaching plans.
Exhibit a continuous improvement mindset while striving to exemplify Soleils commitment to the school community.

THE QUALIFICATIONS
Required :
Strong commitment to Soleil Academys mission and vision
Masters degree from an accredited college or university in Special Education or related field.
A valid California Education Specialist Credential is required.
3 years of experience working with students with special needs.
Proven track record of increasing student achievement
Experience working with students with disabilities, particularly in a TK-5th grade setting
Knowledge of special education laws, regulations, and best practices
Ability to develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs)
Openness to feedback and desire to continue development as a professional
Willingness to take responsibility for scholar outcomes and achievement
Commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion in education
Flexibility, adaptability, and a growth mindset
Ability to work effectively in a team environment and independently with minimal supervision
Excellent verbal, and written communication, collaboration, organizational and interpersonal skills
TB Clearance
Highly preferred :
1 years of experience coaching and observing teachers (Leadership role Department Chair, Mentor Teacher, etc.).
A valid Administrative Credential
Spanish speakers
Minimum of one year working in urban education with a history of significant gains in scholar performance and / or growth
Expertise in line with applicable federal and state requirements
Knowledge of navigating and inputting information into SEIS, Soleils Special Education IEP Management System

Compensation and Benefits
Compensation : Soleil provides competitive salaries, which are reviewed every three years. Based on relevant prior work experience, our hourly range for this role is $90,000- $115,000 .
