Snohomish Conservation District is Hiring a Community Conservation Program Manager Near Lake Stevens, WA

JOB ANNOUNCEMENT
Community Conservation Program Manager

Terms: Regular full-time position (40hrs/week), with benefits
Salary: $60,000 - $75,000 annually

Position Summary
The Community Conservation Program Manager will provide programmatic oversight, project
management, and staff supervision for the Snohomish Conservation District’s Community Conservation
Program. The program includes Green Stormwater Infrastructure, Urban Agriculture, and Backyard
Wildlife Habitat. The Community Conservation Program Manager will provide technical oversight to
staff, ensure high quality customer service is maintained, and support partnership building efforts for
each of the programmatic elements. This position will report to the Executive Director and work in
partnership with the Management Team.

About the Snohomish Conservation District
One of 45 Conservation Districts in the State of Washington, the Snohomish Conservation District is a
leader among peers with robust agricultural resilience, habitat restoration, urban stormwater, farm
planning, youth education, and community engagement programs. The District works with farmers, city
residents, rural and suburban landowners on a collaborative and voluntary basis throughout our service
area that includes most of Snohomish County and Camano Island. We take the mission of the District to
heart - “work cooperatively with others to promote and encourage conservation and responsible use of
natural resources” - as we implement successful and innovative approaches to getting real work done
on-the-ground.

Primary Job Responsibilities
These are illustrations of the various types of work performed. The omission of specific duties does not
exclude them if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment to the position. The Community
Conservation Program Manager will lead the following tasks:

  • Work with the Community Conservation and Management Teams to develop the strategic vision
and priorities of the program.
  • Supervise a team of specialists and crew members. Develop work plans and conduct annual
performance evaluations.
  • Develop grant proposals and manage project and program budgets. Oversee project
implementation.
  • Work with diverse partners, committees, and work groups to advance natural resource
priorities.
  • Provide technical oversight to the teams including technical assistance to landowners, project
management, grant management, and project implementation.
  • Develop training plans for staff to promote continued staff development, fill gaps in program
delivery, and explore new and innovative approaches to natural resource management.
  • Provide high quality customer service and technical assistance to landowners and residents.

Job Qualifications
Required knowledge, skills, and abilities
A bachelor’s degree in natural resources, urban planning, or related field; proven leadership abilities;
and five years of professional experience, preferably working in the environmental field.

  • Experience in program management, budgeting, and staff supervision
  • Experience managing contracts and consultants
  • Project management experience
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and writing
  • Experience writing successful grant proposals
  • Experience with green stormwater infrastructure and community-based projects
  • Ability to build relationships with the community and agency/organizational partners
  • Knowledge and ability in conflict management
  • Knowledge of local, state, and federal ordinances and regulations
  • Experience in managing multiple priorities and deadlines
  • Knowledge of local and regional conservation issues
  • Valid, unrestricted Washington State driver’s license
Preferred additional knowledge, skills, and abilities:
  • Master’s degree in natural resources, urban planning, or related field
  • Proficiency in GIS software
  • Experience with Smartsheet
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:
This position includes primarily office and some field work, with regular travel to job sites. This position
requires the ability to:
  • Sit or stand for long periods of time in a standard workday.
  • Occasionally lift, pull, carry, push up to 40lbs as well as to bend, twist, squat, kneel/crawl, reach
overhead, etc.
  • Use finger dexterity and fine manipulation.
  • Work outdoors in all weather conditions and on rough or uneven terrain.
  • Drive a District vehicle when travel is needed and safely operate a motor vehicle on both public

and private roads during daylight and occasionally after dark. Must hold a valid, unrestricted
Washington State driver’s license (or have the ability to acquire upon hire).

  • Occasionally work on evenings and weekends.
  • Comply with District COVID protection protocols, including being fully vaccinated and boosted,

and providing documentation of vaccination status.

Work Location
The position will work out of our Lake Stevens office with the option to work remotely part of the time.
Some essential functions of this position require in-office or on-site work at specific times.
