Snohomish Conservation District is Hiring a Communications and Marketing Specialist Near Lake Stevens, WA

JOB ANNOUNCEMENT
Communications and Marketing Specialist

Terms: Regular full-time position (40 hrs/week), with benefits
Salary: $54,000 - $64,000 annually

Position Summary
The Communications and Marketing Specialist oversees Snohomish Conservation District’s messaging
and communication strategies. This role engages the community and encourages conservation through
written and digital content such as social media, newsletters, press releases, and strategic events. The
position is part of the Education and Outreach Team which provides education, outreach, and
communications support to all District programs – including Agriculture, Habitat, Community
Conservation, and District Operations. This position will report to the Education and Outreach Program
Manager.
About the Snohomish Conservation District
One of 45 Conservation Districts in the State of Washington, the Snohomish Conservation District is a
leader among peers with robust agricultural resilience, habitat restoration, urban stormwater, farm
planning, youth education, and community engagement programs. The District works with farmers, city
residents, and rural and suburban landowners on a collaborative and voluntary basis throughout our
service area that includes most of Snohomish County and Camano Island. We take the mission of the
District to heart - “work cooperatively with others to promote and encourage conservation and
responsible use of natural resources” - as we implement successful and innovative approaches to
getting real work done on-the-ground.

Primary Job Responsibilities
These are illustrations of the various types of work performed. The omission of specific duties does not
exclude them if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment to the position. The Communications
and Marketing Specialist will lead the following tasks:

  • Write and edit content for print and electronic communications, including newsletters, blog
posts, website, flyers, press releases, and annual reports.
  • Develop, implement, and oversee messaging strategies and marketing campaigns to increase
knowledge and understanding of SCD programs, and natural resource and conservation values
in targeted audiences.
  • Oversee conformity to standards of style and quality in all communications, outreach, and
marketing materials.
  • Maintain social media platforms, including producing and scheduling content and evaluating
analytics.
  • Manage print and digital promotion of outreach events and programs.
  • Support community outreach events, assisting with registration, coordinating with event
partners, and conducting event evaluation.
  • Support grant writing and editing across Snohomish Conservation District teams.
  • Develop and enhance relationships with the media and organizational partners.

Job Qualifications
Required knowledge, skills, and abilities

  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, English, journalism, marketing, or related field, or
equivalent experience
  • At least three years of professional experience in marketing, communications, or a related field
  • Strong writing and editing skills
  • Experience overseeing cohesive communications and branding
  • Strong organization skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing with a diversity of audiences
  • Experience managing content for social media platforms
  • Knowledge of and experience with social or targeted marketing

Preferred knowledge, skills, and abilities

  • Master’s degree in communications, English, journalism, marketing, public affairs, or related
field.
  • Knowledge and experience in one or more of the following topics: watersheds, habitat
restoration, natural resources conservation, community gardening, agriculture, forestry,
stormwater pollution, and green stormwater infrastructure
  • Experience writing, editing, and managing grants, contracts, and other funding awards
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:
This position includes primarily office and some field work, with regular travel to job sites. This position
requires the ability to:
  • Sit or stand for long periods of time in a standard workday.
  • Drive a District vehicle when travel is needed. Must hold a valid, unrestricted Washington State
driver’s license (or have the ability to acquire upon hire).
  • Occasionally work on evenings and weekends.
  • Comply with District COVID protection protocols, including being fully vaccinated and boosted,

and providing documentation of vaccination status.

Work Location
The position will work out of our Lake Stevens office with the option to work remotely part or most of
the time. Some essential functions of this position require in-office or on-site work at specific times.
