Job Summary

The sales / proposal engineer coordinates the technological aspects of the sales activity in close harmony with sales and supporting departments, including the elaboration of technical proposals, taking responsibility for the technical, organization and managerial aspects thereof.

Job Function/Principal Duties

• In conjunction with the Sales Managers, Engineering Department and Automation Department, determines which references will be used for equipment and for cost
• Project coordination with team members in the proposal stage
• Proposal writing and editing
• Proposal elaboration
• Maintain proposal files including relative calculations, communications, and meeting reports
• Contacts and coordination with main mechanical vendors for proposal purposes
• Inter-departmental or inter-company contacts concerning proposals
• Coordination of layout work for proposal preparation
• Coordination of engineering work for proposal preparation
• Coordination of proposal, metallurgical and process calculations
• Prepare and edit cost estimates for proposed project with estimator
• Makes sales calls and attends sales functions, as required
• Technical presentation of proposals to customers
• Technical presentation of SMS group technology to prospective customers
• Business travel (domestic and international) required
• Engineering studies
• Commissioning of equipment, as required

Requirements

• Steelmaking and/or continuous casting experience is required
• Candidates must be self-motivated and display creativity, strong problem solving skills, and work well in a diverse team environment
• Candidates should have a strong ability to multitask and work in an interdisciplinary environment
• Strong verbal and written communication skills
• Excellent computer skills, with a strong emphasis on Word, Excel and PowerPoint.

Educational and Experience Requirements

• Bachelor of Science – Engineering degree (mechanical, metallurgical and/or material science engineering)
• 5 years experience in design and proposal preparation is preferred
• Steelmaking & continuous casting knowledge is preferred
