Description
FULL-TIME COOK POSITION
Provides prompt and exemplary meal services to residents and guests to ensure a
satisfactory dining experience.
Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Demonstrates considerable initiative and judgment regarding setting up meals, seasoning
food, estimating food requirements, utilizing leftovers, and presenting food in an
attractive manner.
Plans cooking schedule to have meals prepared on time and in accordance with
established meal schedules. Timely posts changes to the existing menu.
Prepares, portions, garnishes, and serves meals following standard recipes and in
accordance with planned menus and established portion control procedures in a timely
and respectable manner.
Is aware of residents special dietary needs, i.e. low-sodium NAS and no concentrated
sweets NCS, allergies, etc. and prepares meals accordingly. Reports changes in
residents diets to supervisor.
Coordinates preparation for / prepares daily menus in adherence to budgetary guidelines
for daily food costs.
Performs pre-meal meeting with food servers to review detail of menu.
Inspects all trays to ensure completeness and accuracy of menu and diet preference.
Assists with checking meals during service to ensure meals are served accurately in
accordance with menu, residents diet and / or food preferences.
Observes and tests foods being cooked by tasting, smelling, and piercing with fork to
determine that it is cooked.
Maintains proper temperature of food during preparation and service. Uses covers and
heat lamp as appropriate.
Keeps food waste to a minimum by using food storage and food recycling techniques.
Labels, dates and stores food properly according to established guidelines and applicable
health codes.
Keeps stock room, freezers and coolers clean and food supply rotated.
Ensures that refrigerator and freezer temperatures are within appropriate range and
reports discrepancies to supervisor.
Properly disposes of food and waste.
Assists with washing and distributing clean dishes as instructed.
Assists with and / or coordinates daily or scheduled cleaning duties.
Assists with cleaning and / or vacuuming the dining room and / or kitchen.

respect residents privacy. Adheres to the resident bill of rights as defined by State law.
Develops and maintains good working relationship and cooperative attitude with
interdepartmental personnel as well as other departments within community.
Performs all duties in accordance with company policy & procedures, federal and / or state
laws and regulations, and established precautions, sanitary safety and infection control
standards.
Wears protective equipment and / or clothing as required by established policies &
procedures.
Minimizes breakage by handling china, glassware and equipment safely and as
instructed.
Cleans and cares for equipment.
Maintains safe working environment through prevention of accidents, the preservation of
equipment, and the achievement of safe working practices.
Follows established guidelines regarding infection control techniques, practices sanitary
food handling, and promptly reports all hazardous conditions, equipment, accidents, and
incidents to supervisor.
Advises supervisor of any departmental supplies, equipment and materials to be repaired
or replaced.
Minimizes own health risk by performing duties in accordance with established
guidelines, i.e. using proper body mechanics, using equipment and utensils properly.
Monitors own sanitation, hygiene and health standards.
Follows designated plan of action in the event of fire or other emergency situation.
Attends required staff meetings and in-service training.
Performs other duties as assigned.
