SLB is Hiring a Senior Process Engineer Near Houston, TX

Job Summary

Exciting opportunity for a Senior Process Engineer to join SLB’s Midstream Process Systems engineering team, based from the office in Houston, but with flexible working options.

SLB’s Midstream Process Systems group designs, engineers and fabricates specialist oil, gas, water and solids processing equipment packages and facilities. These packages vary in size and complexity from single train vessels to multi deck 3000t modules for both onshore and offshore facilities. We are looking for a Senior Process Engineer with oil and/or water processing and separations experience to work within the Oil and Produced Water Technology teams. SLB’s Oil and Produced Water Treatment technologies and patents are world leading and as Senior Process Engineer you will act as lead on medium, large and complex/critical tenders/projects taking full ownership of all process engineering activities. You will be responsible for leading, undertaking and delegating/managing process engineering activities and deliverables within the team. Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Evaluate customer inquiries and specifications in support of the tendering team to determine the best process, technology or equipment design for the application.
  • Determine the required scope of work to be provided and develop the best strategy to win the technical proposal.
  • Lead the development and creation of all project process deliverables including Heat & Material Balance, PFDs, P&ID’s, and process equipment datasheets. Ensure that all documents match, and that any changes are picked up on all applicable documents.
  • Submit technical proposals that include a clear definition of the scope of supply, equipment performance, warranty, and delivery.
  • Design equipment to match specifications or clearly define differences (clarifications or exceptions list) to customers. Confirm compliance with the customer’s purchase order regarding the proposal technical and process requirements.
  • Provide process information to instrumentation engineers. Select control valves, level instruments and flow measurement instruments together with the instrumentation engineer. Review vendor’s technical information for instruments.
  • Develop “deliverables” for cost estimating, design engineering, and drafting.
  • Create of all process feed/project deliverables in accordance with the SLB and Client requirements.
  • Perform process design calculations including equipment sizing, hydraulic calculation, line sizing, pump’s required head, and PSV sizing.
  • Create / review / comment on complex PFDs and P&IDs.
  • Recommend instrumentation and controls per the system design.
  • Develop in-depth knowledge of all SLB technologies and products, and their technical design features and applications.
  • Generate Control Narrative and Control Philosophy. Elaborate cause a& effect matrix and define set points of alarms and trips.
  • Attend client clarification and kick off meetings as required.
  • Develop cause and effect charts and participate in client HAZOP or lead internal HAZOP.
  • Prepare technical requisition for buyout equipment such as heat exchangers, vessels’ internals, vessels and pumps.pe
  • Produce Installation, Operation & Maintenance Instruction Manuals, including lists for consumables, spare parts, special tools, lubricants, and utilities.
  • Develop project-specific pre-commissioning, and commissioning manuals including mechanical completion checklists.
  • Produce training materials and conduct training sessions.
  • Develop equipment data sheets with process data.
  • Perform peer reviews of team design work including proposals, deliverables, and fabrication drawings.
  • Provide technical support to trouble shoot operations.
  • Assist in start-up and commissioning activities for supplied equipment and facilities.
  • Approve and follow engineering project schedule, coordinate design work with the global resource as applicable, input to man-hour estimates and utilize MOC process.
  • Contribute to the development of SLB procedures.
  • Knowledge share in the development of others.
  • Participate in the R&D and sustaining of the product and technologies.
  • Support design optimization to lower carbon footprint.

Preferred Experience:

  • Oil treatment and separations experience in particular dehydration and desalting technologies in upstream and downstream oil processing.
  • Produced water treatment experience in onshore and offshore production platforms and facilities.
  • In-depth knowledge of national and international codes and standards for oil field process equipment design.
  • Highly competent in process equipment design and sizing.
  • Hands-on experience with field start-up, commissioning, trials and troubleshooting experience of separation systems.
  • Clear understanding of the various raw material types, grades and selection criteria.
  • Experience/skill with multidiscipline project engineering functions.
  • Utilizes extensive knowledge, skills and experience to contribute to multiple issues / projects. Leads process activities in medium to large sized projects.
  • Ability to develop process / equipment scheme and layout from conceptual design basis considering operability, maintenance and safety.
  • Ability to educate customers on the advantages of MPS equipment.
  • Ability to work cooperatively with various company departments associated with designing, estimating, fabricating, operating, and selling this equipment.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision, organized and confident.
  • Ability to utilize Word, Excel, PowerPoint and engineering design programs.
  • Good communication skills at all levels of the business.
  • Self-motivation, initiative and commitment.
  • This is an office-based position, but there may be a requirement for the individual to travel with this position, both in the Americas or overseas.
  • This position involves Project/commissioning support and front-end sales support, including direct contact with external clients and a degree of interface with Senior Managers and Directors within the company.

Minimum Job Qualifications

  • Minimum Bachelor degree (BEng or BSc) in Chemical, Petroleum Engineering, with experience in the design and selection of process equipment for the Oil and Gas Industry;
  • Or Master (MEng or MSc) Degree in Chemical, Petroleum Engineering with experience in the selection of process equipment for the Oil and Gas Industry; or equivalent experience.
  • 5-10 years relevant experience within the Oil and Gas industry.
  • In- depth knowledge of national and international codes and standards for oil field process equipment design and field installation and start-up procedures
  • Competent in process equipment design and sizing.
  • Hands on experience with field start-up and troubleshooting experience of systems produced.
  • Clear understanding of the various raw material types, grades and selection criteria.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication
  • Adaptable and flexible to change.
  • Attention to details.
  • Time management
