Simmons University is looking for a Social Worker/Counselor to join the Counseling Center ("Center"). Reporting to the Director, the Social Worker/Counselor will provide individual assessment, crisis management, community referrals, and short and longer-term counseling to Simmons undergraduate and graduate students. From supporting the Center's outreach efforts, with a focus on outreach to underrepresented communities, to participating in the intern training program, the Social Worker will play a critical role in creating an inclusive and supportive community for all students.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Clinical Services:
Assess individual client's biopsychosocial history, including familial and cultural influences, along with current functioning to determine clinically appropriate interventions and services;
Provide referral to community providers, as appropriate, based on client's financial and psychological resources;
Provide short or longer-term counseling, as clinically appropriate, to Simmons undergraduate and graduate students;
Provide urgent care for students who are experiencing a mental health crisis;
Complete all necessary paperwork in a timely manner (assessment, weekly notes, forms for accommodations, etc).
Outreach and Programming:
Work closely with Counseling Center's Outreach Coordinator, trainees, campus student groups, residence life and other campus partners;
Work directly with student groups, with a focus on underrepresented communities, to offer support and consultation;
Facilitate support group for underrepresented students and/or groups in coordination with the Multicultural Center;
Provide individual and/or small group supervision to trainee(s) commiserate with level of clinical experience prior to working at Simmons;
Participate in intern selection process in the winter;
Collaborate with staff to plan and facilitate the intern orientation in August;
Attend and participate in the intern training seminars, including facilitating a small group supervision-consultation group and providing individual supervision if licensed;
Consult with interns as needed.
OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Participate in staff meetings and offer relevant clinical and administrative contributions;
Carry the on-call phone on a rotating-basis;
Assist with various administrative tasks as requested by the Counseling Center Director.
Other duties as assigned.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Master's Degree in Social Work or Psychology;
Relevant professional experience,
Proven experience successfully working with individuals from a diverse range of identities and perspectives.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
LICSW/LMHC strongly preferred;
College/higher education and/or medical or mental health clinic experience;
COMPETENCIES
Ability to handle sensitive situations with professionalism, discretion and confidentiality;
Strong communication (Written, Verbal, Presentation) and organizational skills;

WORK ENVIRONMENT & CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL DEMANDS
This is a full time, 40 hours a week position for 9 months of the academic year, starting late August to late May.
