General Description: The purpose of a school social worker is to provide critical social/emotional support and intervention so that each student can access his/her education.Duties and Responsibilities:
- Implement school, district and department policies.
- Collaborate with the team on curriculum and students needs.
- Create and manage effective communication with parents, community based organizations, and universities.
- Share in preparation of individualized education plans, as it relates to mental health goals of students.
- Collaborates in the development of behavioral intervention plans.
- Provide home based assessments as indicated by need of student, school or district.
- Provide counseling, case management and crisis intervention as indicated by need of the student, teacher or district.
- Maintain professional competencies in areas of responsibilities.
- Maintain a student database.
- Participate in student based grade level, administrative, and discipline meetings.
- Responsible for investigating and filling 51A reports.
- Maintain regular and reliable attendance.
- Participate in the pre- referral process of special education.
- Commit to increasing the positive climate between and amongst peers.
- Seek professional development.
- Meets the standards of highly qualified as outlined by federal mandate, No Child Left Behind.
- Hold a Masters degree in related field;
- Certification in School Social Work.
- Minimum of 2 years experience in an elementary school setting.
- High interest / experience with the social / emotional / academic needs of urban children.
- LCSW required.
