Job Overview

This position is critical to the financial accounting function. The responsibilities include monthly financial close, coordination and management of month end closing activities, preparation and review of general ledger account reconciliations and analysis, monthly reporting, interim and annual audit support ensuring compliance with various corporate financial policies and procedures. The role will work with our International locations, reconciling foreign intercompany accounts, and review of USD conversion transactions.

Responsibilities

The Senior Accountant, under the direction of the Director of Fiscal Services, prepares a variety of financial analyses, reconciliations and reports, for internal and external purposes, as needed on a monthly, quarterly, and annual basis. The Senior Accountant will partner with hospital operational management to provide timely communication of financial information while maintaining a customer service orientation to all constituencies.

• Create monthly and year-end closing journal entries including expense accruals, accounts receivable, accounts payable, etc.
• Assist in monthly and year-end financial close process including review, analyses, and distribution of internal and external financial information while reviewing financial data for accuracy, reasonableness, and completeness.
• Maintain sufficient and appropriate supporting documentation for all general ledger journal entries.
• Prepare all balance sheet and income statement account reconciliations on a monthly basis.
• Review and approve weekly accounts payable payments assuring payments are accurate, timely and charged to the appropriate accounts and cost centers.
• Independently identify, research, and provide recommendations for resolution of any accounting issues, consistent with a thorough understanding of accounting in accordance with GAAP.
• Provide a first level review and analysis of patient revenue looking for trends, inaccuracies, etc.
• Interpret, communicate, and implement written policies and procedures to meet the needs of a diverse client population.
• Ability to work independently, with broadly defined work objectives, and limited supervision.
• Interact with co-workers, visitors, patients and other staff consistent with the mission and values of Shriners Childrens.
• Assist in maintaining a sound system of internal assurances and controls for the department and hospital.
• Assist with internal and external audits.
• Complete special projects and other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Minimum:

• Bachelors Degree in Accounting
• 3 years of related work experience

Preferred:

• Certified Public Accountant
