Shrewsbury Public Schools is currently accepting applications for the position of Director of High School Mathematics, Grades 9-12, effective for the 2024-2025 school year. We are seeking a highly motivated, skillful and dynamic leader. This individual must be excited to play a critical role in shaping the mathematics curriculum, collaborating with the middle level mathematics coordinator, and continuing to foster a culture of excellence in mathematics, while providing guidance and support to high school math teachers.

This position reports to the High School Principal and to the Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum, Instruction and Assessment, and serves as part of the high school leadership team, as well as a member of the District Leadership Team. The Director of Mathematics works the teacher work year as well as ten days beyond the teacher work year; the ten days are scheduled in consultation with the High School Principal and Assistant Superintendent. The work day for all directors/coordinators is the length of the teacher day and whatever additional time is necessary for the performance of their duties. The Director of Mathematics also is assigned direct teaching responsibilities for 40% of their time for the upcoming school year. The Director of Mathematics’ salary is placement on the teacher scale plus a stipend that will range from $8,260-$12,663 for the 2024-2025 school year.

The Director of Mathematics will be responsible for coordination of curriculum, annual budget development, ordering supplies, and curriculum materials, and providing professional development for faculty, in collaboration and under the direction of the Assistant Superintendent. As an evaluator for members of the high school mathematics faculty, the Director of Mathematics will observe classrooms, provide feedback, and write formative and summative evaluations, and works closely with the high school Principal and the high school leadership team on meeting the needs of high school students. Ideal candidates will have a deep understanding of high school mathematics content, pedagogy, and possess the ability to model instructional best practices. In Shrewsbury all district leaders are expected to demonstrate strong leadership and communication skills together with a deep commitment to facilitating successful outcomes for all students.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

Curriculum Development: Lead the development, implementation, and evaluation of a comprehensive and rigorous high school mathematics curriculum aligned with state standards.

Instructional Leadership: Provide instructional leadership to mathematics teachers by supporting their professional growth, observing classroom instruction, and providing feedback and coaching within the Massachusetts and Shrewsbury framework for educator evaluation.

Assessment and Data Analysis: Coordinate the development and administration of assessments to measure student learning and analyze data to inform instructional decisions and improve student outcomes.

Professional Development: Plan and facilitate professional development opportunities for mathematics teachers to enhance their content knowledge, pedagogical skills, and use of instructional technology.

Collaboration: Collaborate with other members of the educational leadership team, including administrators and department heads, to ensure alignment and coherence across the curriculum and instructional programs.

Parent and Community Engagement: Establish and maintain positive relationships with parents, community members, and other stakeholders to promote understanding and support for the mathematics program.

Resource Management: Manage resources effectively, including budgets, instructional materials, and technology tools, to support the implementation of the mathematics curriculum.

Research and Innovation: Stay informed about current research, trends, and best practices in mathematics education and identify opportunities for innovation and improvement.

Preferred Qualifications:

Master's degree or higher in mathematics education, curriculum and instruction, or a related field.

Department of Elementary and Secondary Education license in Mathematics valid at the high school level and as a director.

Minimum of 5 years of teaching experience in high school mathematics.

Demonstrated leadership experience.

Strong knowledge of high school mathematics content, instructional strategies, and assessment practices.

Excellent communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills.

Ability to analyze data and use it to drive decision-making and improve student achievement.

Commitment to diversity, belonging, equity, and inclusion in education.

Proficiency in educational technology tools and platforms.
