To support our growth, we are looking for Senior Legal Counsel to join our Real Estate Legal team. The role will be responsible for a variety of legal matters related to the ShopCore's shopping center portfolio. The primary responsibilities will be for construction and development projects. Other responsibilities will include title matters, leasing, property management and operational issues.

What you will do:

  • Provide primary, key legal support, advice and counsel to the Construction and Redevelopment Departments, including supervision of zoning, land use and permits as well as outside land use counsel.
  • Negotiate and draft construction contracts, design agreements, development agreements and related documents.
  • Provide key legal support, advice and counsel to the Leasing Department, including supervision of outside counsel.
  • Negotiate and draft leases, operating and use agreements, and other real estate documentation such as listing agreements, easement agreements, condominium association documents, access agreements, and license agreements.
  • Title and survey review.
  • Negotiate and draft leases and related documents including amendments, assignments and SNDAs.
  • Negotiate and draft a variety of corporate contracts, including confidentiality agreements, vendor contracts, and consulting agreements.
  • Handle condemnation matters, including negotiations and documentation
  • Provide support for acquisitions and dispositions
  • Provide support to Property Management in construction related matters

What you should have:

  • Juris Doctorate and Bar Admission
  • 10 years of relevant experience
  • Applicable experience in the shopping center industry/retail matters, specifically including construction and development matters.
  • Management experience, including work supervision and development of direct reports.
  • Ability to draft complex documentation.
  • A client services mindset to manage expectations and deliver high quality work product.
  • Comfort with direct and frequent contact with executives, as well as a respectful and collegial approach with more junior associates.
  • Superior analytical skills in interpreting contract provisions and municipal codes.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Success in multi-tasking while maintaining a strong attention to detail and desire to perform projects and actions with the highest quality results.
  • Maintaining personal skills and establishing relationships in order to advance professional networks and facilitate communication both within and outside the company.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • A practical approach to problem solving, accurately conveying detailed information in an accessible manner without “over-lawyering”.
  • Ability to prioritize, work under pressure and adhere to tight deadlines.
  • Demonstrated self-starter, able to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to be proactive and demonstrate initiative in projects and tasks, creating clear pathways to accomplishing company goals (i.e. less “you can’t” and more “here’s how”).
  • Ability to expand areas of knowledge and learn new skills as circumstances require.
  • High degree of integrity.
