Sholom Community Alliance is Hiring an Assistant Director of Nursing Near Park, MN

SUMMARY

The Assistant Director of Nursing assists the Director of Nursing Services in managing the activities of all licensed and non-licensed personnel who provide health care and nursing services to residents.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

1) The Assistant Director of Nursing Services compliments the Director of Nursing Services in planning, developing and supervising the activities of licensed and non-licensed personnel who provide health care and nursing services to Nursing Home residents. *

a. This position assists with the development and implementation of nursing services, objectives, policies and procedures in accordance with Federal and State regulations. *

b. Oversees the clinical operations and regulatory compliance (i.e. monitoring resident conditions, psychopharmacological drugs, restraint use, foley catheters, pressure ulcers, etc.) of the Nursing Department.*

c. Manages an assigned nursing unit, including staff and residents; ensuring 24-hour care is delivered per facility standards to assist residents in achieving and maintaining their highest practical physical, mental, and psychosocial well-being. *

· Maintain comprehensive documentation and reports per policy and regulation. *

· Facilitate care conference meetings and participate in IDT (Interdisciplinary Team) meetings as needed. *

· Serve as a clinical resource to staff regarding nursing care of residents. Provide in-service education to staff as requested. *

· Supervise, organize and provide work direction to unit staff. Participate in Performance Evaluations of unit staff, as requested by immediate supervisor. *

· Ensure the comprehensive assessment of residents with acute changes of condition, and attend resident Care Conferences as needed.

d. Conducts nursing rounds on all units several times a day, including the beginning and end of shift. 

e. Provides reports/recommendations as needed/required by the Director of Nursing Services concerning the operations of nursing Services.*

f. Assists the Director of Nursing Services in the development, implementation and evaluation of facility policies, procedures and guidelines on an annual and on-going basis (i.e. nursing, pharmacy, lab, physicians, medical records, etc.) *

g. Assists the Director of Nursing Services in ensuring that residents are free from abuse, mistreatment and neglect. *

h. Assists the Director of Nursing Services in ensuring nursing staff awareness and compliance with Federal and State regulations relative to resident rights issues.*

2) Assists the Director of Nursing Services in the design, implementation and evaluation of nursing systems that ensure consistent delivery of care and maintains and promotes resident rights. *

3) The incumbent shares, with the Director of Nursing Services, the responsibility for selecting Nursing Department staff, completing employee appraisals and resolving problems involving employee disciplinary action. *

a. Collaborates with the Director of Nursing and nursing leadership to ensure appropriate staffing.

4) The Assistant Director of Nursing Services shares responsibility backing up for the Nursing staff on a 24-hour per day, 7 day per week basis.*

5) The Assistant Director of Nursing Services will be the residents' physicians’ point of contact to ensure a collaborative partnership is maintained. On an occasional basis, collaborate with the physicians’ to clarify medical orders and direct care. *

6) In the absence of the Director of Nursing Services, the Assistant Director of Nursing Services performs the duties of the Director. *

a. Responsible for the performance management for the Registered Nurses, Licensed Practical Nurses, Nursing Assistants, Registered (NAR), Trained Medication Assistant and Medical Records Technicians. *

b. Conduct all staff meetings.

7) Support various other department responsibilities as needed and as assigned.

JOB SPECIFICATIONS

Education, Experience and Credentials

· Minimum requirements necessary to effectively perform position responsibilities include graduation from an Accredited School of Nursing.

· Licensed as a Registered Nurse in the State of Minnesota.

· CPR Certification required.

· Three to five (3-5) years of responsible nursing leadership experience, preferably in a long-term care facility preferred.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

· Knowledge of basic computer skills.

· Excellent communication and management skills or an acceptable equivalent combination of education and experience.

· Demonstrated ability to show respect for principles of resident rights. 

· Ability to maintain highly confidential information regarding to both employees and residents.

· Be familiar and comply with various state and federal regulations such as HIPAA, EEO and ADA as it pertains to both employees and residents. 

· Strong computer skills, Outlook, Internet, and other Record Management applications. Must be skilled in database management and record keeping.

· Able to display high levels of customer service, responding promptly and thoroughly to the inquiries and needs of individuals both internal and external to the organization in accordance with our PROUD standards.

· Able to understand and follow facility and department safety and emergency procedures. 

· Possess effective problem solving skills.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS NECESSARY TO PERFORM THIS JOB

· Perform light work, with occasional or negligible lifting of objects weighing up to 50 pounds.

· Effectively communicate, including following oral and written instructions, in order to communicate with people inside and outside the organization.

· Able to effectively use office equipment to review and create information.

· Work at a desk for extended periods and perform long hours of work sitting at a computer. 

· Frequently stand and walk to move around office/building repeatedly throughout the day.

· Able to work a flexible work schedule, including overtime, nights and weekends as required including attending events/meetings as needed. 

TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT USED

· Use telephone, computer and standard office equipment. 

WORK ENVIRONMENT

The work environment is indoors. The incumbent must be flexible about switching positions quickly in order to respond to the needs of residents, in responding to emergencies.
