Northwest Division

Shimmick’s Northwest Division focuses on transportation, transit, water resources, and water treatment projects in northern California, Washington, and throughout the Northwest. In 2013, the division expanded its footprint to Washington State, where Shimmick secured the $321 million E-320 South Bellevue Extension for Sound Transit. In addition, this division was awarded the APWA 2019 Public Works Project Award in the environment category for the Alameda Creek Fish Passage project in California.

Responsibilities

The Project Engineer acts as the assistant to the Project Manager and will be responsible for the administrative and business aspects of a construction project.

The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to the following:

• Safety & Quality – Participate in the jobsite safety meetings, weekly safety walks, audits, etc.
• Document Control – Manage and review the incoming/outgoing correspondences. Distribute submittals/RFI’s/Change Documents to appropriate parties.
• Project and Contract Administration – Review RFI and submittal responses for change of conditions. Quantify impact of changes and follow-up with applicable notice letters. Prepare cost proposals and change order requests (Force Account or Lump Sum work) for review by Project Manager. Ensure proper document control and archiving of project documentations per Shimmick’s protocols.
• Financials and Cost Management – Help with gathering data for the monthly Owner Pay Application. Help with preparing monthly Job Cost Report and weekly Labor Distribution Report. Track and manage the weekly and monthly project cost and report the financial performance of the project to the team on a regular basis.
• Scheduling – Assist with gathering data for monthly schedule updates. Distribute monthly schedule updates to the suppliers and subcontractors to ensure timely delivery and performance of work.
• Field support - Understand the day-to-day work of the crews and update the weekly lookahead schedule. Assist with managing and tracking submittals and RFI’s.
• Subcontractors – Review and process monthly subcontractor Pay Applications. Process subcontract correspondences, change notices, and change orders.
• Other duties as designated by the project manager or project superintendent.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

• Bachelors Degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or related field 2 years of relevant experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education

Preferred Qualifications:

• 3 years of prior heavy civil GC experience
