As the technical leader on this project, you will own the technical design and development of web-based applications and backend services. You will provide technical guidance for large scale projects related to web-based applications and digital tools used for dyslexia screening, free of charge, across the state of California. You will collaborate with, mentor, and train other engineers. You will establish patterns to ensure engineering effectiveness and engineering excelllence. You'll work your team to push projects forward by providing feedback on code and architecture decisions. You will keep up a working knowledge of evolving tools and innovations in programming to guide engineering execution and implementation.

Please note: The compensation ranges listed online for roles not covered by a bargaining unit agreement are very wide, however a job offer will typically fall in the range of 80% - 120% of the established mid-point. An offer will take into consideration the experience of the final candidate AND the current salary level of individuals working at UCSF in a similar role.

For roles covered by a bargaining unit agreement, there will be specific rules about where a new hire would be placed on the range.

Department Description

The Multitudes Project is part of the Memory and Aging Center (MAC) is the largest division within the Department of Neurology with a diverse workforce of over 260 employees. The Department of Neurology is a teaching, research, and clinical care unit within the School of Medicine (SOM). The Department of Neurology is a large, multi-site department, with locations including Mission Bay, Parnassus, Mt. Zion, ZSFG, VAMC, and the Gladstone Institutes, and is affiliated with the UCSF Weill Institute for Neurosciences. The department is constructed of 14 administrative divisions with 11 clinical specialties. The department has over 230 faculty and academic employees, 290 staff positions, and 170 trainees including residents, clinical fellows, and postdoctoral scholars.
The Department has an annual operating budget over $120M and has been the #1 recipient of NIH funding across all U.S. Departments of Neurology for the past 6 consecutive years, in addition to being the #1 recipient of philanthropic dollars across all departments at UCSF.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a related area and a minimum five years of experience or equivalent experience/training.
  • Advanced knowledge of secure software development
  • Highly advanced skills associated with software specification, design, modification, implementation, and deployment of large-scale scope.
  • Excellent project leadership and management skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to understand functional needs and how systems can support those needs. Demonstrated ability to develop conversion and system implementation plans.
  • Advanced experience with the identification and use of code libraries and open-source forums.
  • Advanced experience with planning for deployment and creation of feedback mechanisms.
  • Demonstrated software repository skills.
  • Experience developing and executing complex test plans.
  • Demonstrated effective communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate technical information to technical and non-technical personnel at various levels in the organization.
  • Self-motivated and works independently and as part of a team. Able to learn effectively and meet deadlines.
  • Demonstrated complex problem-solving skills.
