Shawmut Corporation is Hiring a Project Cost Analyst Near Boston, MA

Overview

SUMMARY

The Project Cost Analyst serves as the central hub for Division 1 cost data entry, reporting and analysis. They are responsible for streamlining and standardizing data entry processes, ensuring proposals and budgets are developed with consistency and efficiency. The Project Cost Analyst verifies and cleanses data to guarantee accuracy and leverages data analysis to communicate key financial insights, empowering project stakeholders to make informed decisions that drive project success.

Position is located in the New England region based in Boston, Providence or Worcester office.

Responsibilities

Data Management

  • Project Proposals:
  • Collaborate with Project Executive to gain a thorough understanding of project goals, scope, schedule, and staffing requirements/plan.
  • Inform proposal development by utilizing historical data to estimate and validate staffing plan and recommend strategies for winning combinations based on contract type, value, and complexity. Adapt recommendations based on specific project nuances and client requirements.
  • Ensure accurate staffing plans and associated project rates are reflected in the proposal template.
  • Ensure accurate cost representation by working with Finance to review deviations from standard billing rates.
  • Standardize data entry to minimize template user errors through a centralized management system.
  • Safeguard the accuracy and integrity of all data, particularly critical project information.
  • Work closely with the Project Executive to complete the owner's bid form. This involves studying their form and understanding their requirements; mapping and translating data between their form and our study to avoid critical information being missed.
  • Archive GC study data in historical database; trend and leverage data to inform future proposals.
  • Review RFPs for information needed to assist in the development of GCs and PRs
  • Establish clear data entry guidelines and ensure consistent application across project teams.
  • Conduct regular audits of GC studies and other project data to identify and address inconsistencies or errors.
  • Proactively collaborate with purchasing and project teams to prepare the Internal Budget Lock Form well ahead of the Budget Lock Meeting to ensure accurate, consistent data output.
  • Partner with Operations and Business Finance to identify areas of process improvement.
  • Champion the implementation of new tools, templates, and SOPs, fostering user adoption and ensuring a smooth transition for project teams.

Trends and Analysis

  • Mine valuable insights from historical GC studies and proposals. This includes extracting key data points like project type, contract value, staffing models, team size, win rates, and budget variances.
  • Partner with Business Finance to identify and implement enhancements to auditing, reporting and analysis.
  • Partner with IT to develop impactful dashboards and charts, effectively communicating project trends and insights to Project Executives and key stakeholders. This will enable data-driven decision-making and keep everyone informed.
  • Incorporate data-driven insights into proposal templates and workflows to streamline development and ensure consistency.
  • Regularly update analysis and models as new data becomes available to maintain accuracy and relevance.
  • Transform raw data into actionable insights by collecting, organizing, and reporting it in a way that optimizes project finances.

Qualifications

  • Experience: 5 years’ experience in the construction industry.
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in construction management or civil engineering or commensurate work experience

CRITICAL SKILLS/SPECIFIC COMPETENCIES

Financial Acumen:

  • Strong financial literacy with a focus on construction project profitability.
  • Proficiency with CMIC or similar construction financial management systems

Construction Management:

  • Deep understanding of construction principles, best practices, procedures, and methodologies.

Project Profitability:

  • Proven ability to maximize project profits through effective cost recovery strategies.

Bidding and Estimating:

  • Skilled in utilizing bid evaluation templates and processes.
  • Proficient in analyzing contracts, rates, and labor costs to build accurate estimates.

Technical Skills:

  • Mastery of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).

Leadership and Collaboration:

  • Demonstrated ability to drive positive change and influence others.
  • Effective communicator with strong interpersonal skills.

Problem-Solving and Initiative:

  • Strong judgment and ability to identify when to escalate issues.

Communication:

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.

Work Ethic and Adaptability:

  • Highly motivated with a strong work ethic (initiative, follow-through, resourcefulness, efficiency, and attention to detail).
  • Quick learner with the ability to master new software and applications.
