Job Title: Registered Nurse (RN) - Corrections

Location: Eden, TX

Rate: $2015 Weekly

Shift: 36hrs - 3x12hrs - 7a - 7p - Days

Job Description:

The Registered Nurse (RN) in the corrections setting in Eden, TX, plays a crucial role in providing comprehensive healthcare services to incarcerated individuals. Working within the confines of a correctional facility, the RN ensures the delivery of high-quality medical care, promotes health education, and maintains a safe and secure environment for both staff and inmates.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide direct nursing care to inmates, including assessment, triage, and treatment of acute and chronic medical conditions.
  • Administer medications, perform wound care, and assist with medical procedures as required.
  • Conduct health screenings, assessments, and educational sessions to promote wellness and disease prevention among inmates.
  • Collaborate with other healthcare professionals to develop and implement health education programs.
  • Respond promptly to medical emergencies within the facility, including assessing the situation, administering first aid, and coordinating with emergency medical services as needed.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date medical records, including assessments, treatment plans, and medication administration.
  • Adhere to documentation standards and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Manage and administer medications in accordance with established protocols and guidelines.
  • Monitor inmates for adverse reactions and side effects, and communicate any concerns to the appropriate medical staff.
  • Work closely with interdisciplinary teams, including physicians, nurse practitioners, mental health professionals, and correctional officers, to coordinate patient care and ensure continuity of services.
  • Adhere to security protocols and procedures to maintain a safe and secure environment within the facility.
  • Remain vigilant for any signs of potential security breaches or inmate misconduct.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant laws, regulations, and professional standards governing nursing practice in the corrections setting.
  • Stay abreast of updates and changes in policies and procedures.
  • Provide support and assistance during crises or behavioral disturbances, including de-escalation techniques and crisis intervention strategies.
  • Collaborate with mental health professionals to address underlying mental health issues.

Requirements:

  • Valid RN license in the state of Texas.
  • BLS (Basic Life Support) certification required; ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) preferred.
  • Minimum of one year of nursing experience, preferably in a corrections or similar setting.
  • Strong assessment and critical thinking skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Knowledge of electronic health record systems preferred.
