Background:

Founded in 1978, SeniorLAW Center is a dynamic nonprofit public interest legal services organization whose mission is to seek justice for older people by using the power of the law, educating the community and advocating on local, state and national levels. We are the only non-profit agency in Pennsylvania wholly dedicated to providing legal assistance to older persons and protecting their legal rights, and one of few in the nation. SeniorLAW Center prioritizes services to older people who are low-income, cultural and racial minorities, the disabled, victims of crime and family violence, and those facing other vulnerabilities and challenges. We fight senior poverty, fraud and homelessness, provide protection from elder abuse and financial exploitation, enable grandparents to raise grandchildren, and improve access to justice.

Position Summary:

SeniorLAW Center seeks excellent candidates to join its team and is seeking a full-time Grants and Development Associate, an integral member of our Development & Communications Team. This newly created position is an excellent opportunity for a self-starter candidate looking to learn and develop with this growing organization and Development team. This position is ideal for a candidate with prior development or fundraising experience, specifically in relation to grant management and writing, has strong writing and communication skills, deep technology skills including with donor base software, and experience conducting grant research and data analysis.
The candidate should be detail-oriented, flexible, able to manage multiple timelines and projects, and possess strong organizational and interpersonal skills. Interest in advocating for older and disenfranchised people and sensitivity to older persons of diverse backgrounds is sought. The candidate must be motivated, highly adaptable and a team player. Experience with donor databases (we use Donor Perfect), MS SharePoint & OneDrive, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook, Adobe Acrobat are all important for this position.

This position reports to the Director of Development.

Work Setting: In-Office in SeniorLAW Center’s Center City headquarters at least 3 days/week, with option for hybrid/work from home opportunities, following a 1-month fully in-person onboarding and training.

Hours of Work: 9AM - 5PM

Role-Based Duties and Responsibilities:

Overall Grant Management: Writing, Reporting, Prospecting, and Facilitation (60%)

•Under supervision of the Director of Development, lead overall grant management for all institutional funders (private foundations, public foundations, government and quasi-government grantmakers)

•Help develop and support Development team’s use of Monday.com project management tool to track funder cultivation and stewardship, funding opportunities, and grant compliance

•Lead maintenance, data entry, cleanup and accuracy of donor database for institutional funder records

•Develop annual grant strategy and goals that build and sustain relationships with existing funders and as well as new funders in partnership with the Director of Development

•Regularly update grant calendar with dates and timelines to achieve sustainability and annual budget goals

•Collaborate with the Executive Director, Sr. Director of Finance, legal project leaders and other Development team members to identify funding needs and create proposal strategies

•Create high-quality, competitive grant applications that support SeniorLAW Center’s operational and programmatic needs

.•Write and submit accurate program narrative reports that fulfill requirements of grant funders

•Collaborate with program staff and Case Management and Data Specialist to collect program outcomes and other required information

•Coordinate with Finance & Operations team to produce required accompanying financial reports

•Seek out new funding opportunities and research funders using GrantStation and/or other non-profit development databases

•Participate in funder communications, meetings, and visits to cultivate and steward relationships with the Grantmakers’ board and staff

•Develop direct relationships with key staff at funding entities to gather information for proposals, solicit feedback on applications as needed and clarify funding priorities

Individual and Corporate Giving & Communications (35%)• Help support and assist with creation and dissemination of Annual Appeals, including all mailings
• Help support development communications efforts, including social media, monthly e-news, and other e-communications, as needed
• Support the planning, coordination and administrative efforts of the Annual Gala
• Help coordinate donor and grant making communication and cultivation efforts, including foundation and individual donor thank you letters, gift acknowledgements and mailings

Other Development Duties (5%)• Attend staff, board committee, and team meetings, events and special events as needed
• Help promote an organizational culture of philanthropy
• Support the work of the Director of Development and the Development and Communications Associate, as needed
• Other projects and tasks as needed.

Required Education and Experience:• Associate’s or Bachelor’s Degree
• In lieu of a higher education degree, a High School Degree with four (4) additional years of work experience may be considered for exceptional candidates.
• At least two (2) years experience in nonprofit fundraising, specifically with grants management strongly preferred

Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Behaviors:• Highly professional, organized, energetic, flexible and culturally sensitive
• Excellent organizational, interpersonal and presentation skills
• Grant proposal development and management experience, with experience working with government funders strongly preferred
• Strong writing skills with exceptional attention to detail, strong copyediting, and proofreading skills
• Strategic and long-term planning abilities
• Quick and dynamic learner who enjoys working collaboratively and independently in a fast-paced environment
• Proficiency and experience with donor databases, and with data analysis
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs is required
• Graphic design skills and experience with online graphic design tool, Canva, a plus
• Interest in legal aid & passion for seeking justice

Salary Range/Benefit Information:This is a full-time exempt hybrid position based in Philadelphia. Excellent benefits, including fully paid health and dental for employee, long- and short-term disability, 401k, flexible spending plan, and generous holidays and leave time, with a value of over $20,000. Salary range, commensurate with years of experience and SeniorLAW Center’s salary structure: starting salary $46,500.
