The Lead Support Counselor provides family-based mental health support, crisis intervention, and case management services to children and families. The primary role is to provide support to children in order to allow them to learn and practice prosocial behavior, problem solving and coping skills. Lead Support Counselors are members of a treatment team, and provide services almost exclusively in the community: in families’ homes, group homes, foster homes, schools, etc. Additionally, the Lead Support Counselor provides coaching, modeling and development opportunities to staff.
ABOUT WRAPAROUND
Seneca offers intensive “Wraparound” services to children and youth at risk of placement in a high-level group home, and to their families. The Wraparound programs are strengths-based, family-driven, flexible, and creative, with the goal of helping the family develop the skills and supports to prevent or reduce the possibility of residential placement of their child. A family-based team addresses the needs of the entire family, not just the at-risk child. This family team consists of family members, other community members who have an important role in the family, and Seneca’s care coordinators, family assistants, and family partners. Wraparound serves 34 youth with their contracts – a mix of foster youth, adoptive youth, and youth living with their biological family.
