Position Summary: The Data Coordinator I works under the direction of the Data Coordination Supervisor. They are responsible for assisting with the maintenance of SIHB’s database-oriented applications to support distributed data collection, reporting, and collaboration. The Data Coordinator I will identify, source, and manage the data needs of SIHB, as well as assist with the development, implementation, and management of data warehouses. The Data Coordinator I works directly with a multi-functional team to identify and manage health and demographic data sources appropriate to meet SIHB’s clinical population health needs and grant requirements. This position is an integral part of the SIHB team and will work in a collaborative manner to understand the dimensions, uses, and data requirements of SIHB’s clinical providers, researchers, and staff. The Data Coordinator I also assists with web-based data visualization activities, as well as survey construction and management.

Organizational Structure/Reporting Relationships: This position reports directly to the Data Coordination Supervisor and is a member of the Data team. This position has no direct reports.

Job Responsibilities

  • Maintain databases, spreadsheets, and datasets for use by data analysts and other staff.
  • Manage SIHB data entry processes that are grant-required.
  • Communicate with internal and external partners clearly in a timely manner to fulfill SIHB’s requirements.
  • Play a liaison role between the Data team and other departments, coordinating meetings and trainings when needed.
  • Assist with acquiring and maintaining data from primary and secondary data sources for use by SIHB clinicians, researchers, and staff.
  • Identify and acquire new data sources specific to the AI/AN population.
  • Create and maintain data dictionaries and codebooks when needed.
  • Maintain and protect database integrity and security.
  • Work collaboratively to provide timely and accurate responses to data requests and needs.
  • Take initiative while establishing strong, collaborative interpersonal relationships with colleagues at all levels and from a variety of disciplinary backgrounds.
  • Ensure prepared data is adequate, accurate, and complies with grant deliverables.
  • Identify and correct data entry errors using appropriate quality control methods to ensure completeness and accuracy.
  • Perform regular backups to ensure data preservation.
  • Maintains project and data filing systems including documenting procedures.
  • Verifies and logs the receipt of data and obtains any data that is missing.
  • Provide general data coordination and entry support across many teams on an ad-hoc basis.
  • Actively participate in internal quality improvement teams and work with members proactively to drive quality improvement initiatives in accordance with the mission and strategic goals of the organization, federal and state laws and regulations, and accreditation standards, when assigned.
  • Other job-related duties as assigned.

Qualifications


Background Qualifications

Required:  

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, population science, information management, library science or another related program.
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel functions.
  • Excellent writing, speaking ability, and strong interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to work in a highly structured role that calls for precision and meticulous attention to detail while operating in a fast-paced, energetic, and collaborative environment.
  • Strong sense of focus and attention to detail.

Preferred:

  • Familiarity with:
    • Health and social issues facing AI/ANs and a desire to promote the delivery of appropriate health services to this population
    • National, state, and local surveillance data and/or surveys
    • Epidemiology, public health, and evaluation theory and practice
  • Experience working with clinical providers, researchers, and other public health professionals.
  • Experience with standard statistical computer software (e.g. Stata, R, SAS), SQL Server Management Studio, relational databases and schemas.

Work Environment: Office hours are 7am-6pm, Monday through Friday and staff operate on a 4-10’s schedule onsite. Occasional extra hours may be required for events or to meet deadlines.
