Seattle Gourmet Foods is Hiring a Quality Specialist - 2nd Shift (FT) Near Kent, WA

Seattle Gourmet Foods needs to fill the position of Quality Specialist on our Swing Shift (3:00 PM to 1:30 AM) Monday to Thursday. We are looking for candidates who are familiar with food safety protocols and a love of chocolate. We are a privately owned gourmet food manufacturer, located in Kent Washington. The primary responsibility of the Quality Control Specialist is to ensure that incoming raw materials and finished goods meet specifications by collecting samples, taking weights, validating documentation, and enforcing good manufacturing practices. You will monitor and help administer quality programs in the production facility and warehouse. Everything we make, literally from soup to chocolate-covered nuts is best in class. Your job is to be sure everything we make is always delicious and created to our exact specifications. What could be more fun than that? You will work directly under an experienced QA Manager and QA Supervisor who will help you manage your daily tasks. Professional growth here is a must, so you will be supported with daily instruction and training on our established procedures.
Minimum Qualifications: 
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • One year of experience in quality control or as production lead.
  • Understanding of food safety, workplace safety, and food quality standards.
  • Attention to detail and solid decision-making skills.
  • Good team player able to work well with others and contribute to a positive work environment.
  • Good attendance and performance record.
  • Some mathematical skills; ability to measure and make conversions based on weight, volume, and distance.
  • Good computer skills to include good knowledge of the entire Office 365 applications suite.

  • Experience working in SQF certified environment.
  • Good knowledge of and/or passion for learning about food manufacturing/production.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • It is the duty and responsibility of ALL Seattle Gourmet Foods staff to report any food safety issues IMMEDIATELY to their supervisor.
  • Releases finished product that complies with specifications.
  • Monitors production of food, including ingredient, lot code, and process verifications.
  • Measures product parameters such as weight, packaging, organoleptic, and identity preservation to ensure specifications are being met.
  • Collects samples of product for company retention and laboratory analysis, as needed.
  • Monitors prerequisite programs to ensure regulatory requirements and program specifications are being met.
  • Validates metal detection procedures.
  • Enforces good manufacturing practices.
  • Runs the safety program including all calibrations, certifications and trainings related to safety. Organizes, puts together, and maintains all of the facilities SDS books.
  • Monitors fire extinguishers and conducts monthly fire extinguisher audits and evaluation of emergency exits.
  • Ensures that non-conforming product is placed on hold and ensures non-conforming product disposition is carried out, as instructed by Quality Control Manager. As well as maintains the Hold book.
  • Provides back-up to Supervisor, or Manager, as needed.
  • Administers and manages the Work Order program.
  • Arranges for certification of Fire Extinguishers and Back Flow Prevention system annually.
  • Special projects as assigned by Quality Manager or Supervisor.
  • Allergen and Sanitation facility swabbing as needed.
  • Monitors customer complaints, issues Corrective Actions when needed.
  • Assists in the creation and review of Product Specifications and Work Instructions as assigned.
Compensation and Benefits:
  • The work schedule is Mon-Thurs (4) 10-hour swing shifts.
  • $18 to $23 /hour DOE.
  • Full Benefits package including medical, dental, vision, paid vacation and paid holidays and option for 401K with company match.
