Position Summary

Salary range for this position is: $52,579.00 - $72,609.00 annually (depending on experience)
Under the supervision of the Executive Director of Financial Services, the Accounting Supervisor, Accounts Payable will be responsible for leading the building of complex payroll vouchers, purchase card vouchers, payroll vendor payments, outside vendor and internal reimbursement payments, executing queries and uploading vouchers. The candidate will coordinate with the general ledger team when there are errors by running data queries, pivoting the data to research and make corresponding payment corrections. This position works with college business offices and staff to work on paying single vouchers. The candidate will maintain positive relationships with vendors and other departments and work closely with purchasing, payroll and the general ledger team.
This position supervises clerical and lead accounts payable staff members.
This position is governed by a collective bargaining agreement with representation by AFT-SPS and is subject to union shop provisions

What you will be working on:
  • Supervising accounts payable staff including assigning, reviewing and evaluating work and work schedules.
  • Establishing and monitoring fiscal data systems, databases and spreadsheets; reviewing fiscal records and formulate corrective action.
  • Investigating discrepancies and resolving differences.
  • Utilizing sound financial principles to perform functions such as: record keeping, reconciliation, auditing and analysis.
  • Providing assistance as necessary in processing invoices and other documents during peak periods.
  • Completing high level accounting work and analysis as assigned.
  • Interpreting fiscal policies and procedures; assisting in the monitoring and review of computer input/output; recommending improvements for development and maintenance of computerized financial management and budget development systems.
  • Preparing and entering fiscal transactions; reviewing and verifying fiscal reports for accuracy; investigating and correcting errors to ensure compliance with established state standards, federal guidelines and local procedures and policies.
  • Coordinating with Purchasing Department and campus departments to insure timely payments.
  • Providing fiscal support to program staff using independent judgment in the interpretation and application of rules and procedures in specialized fiscal functions such as encumbrance liquidation and accrued payables at year-end, and enterprise accounting.
  • Planning, organizing, setting priorities and meeting deadlines; communicating effectively, orally and in writing; accurately performing complex calculations; preparing information on assigned programs according to required schedules; analyzing and evaluating department operations which affect budget considerations.
  • Overseeing timely payment of all Seattle Colleges vendor invoices and posting of interdepartmental charges.
What you bring as a candidate: (Any Equivalent Combination of Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Education and Experience)
  • Bachelor's degree in finance, accounting or business.
  • Three (3) years relevant professional experience in accounting.
  • Knowledge of general accepted accounting principles (GAAP).
  • Demonstrated skills in Microsoft Office including advanced skill in Excel.
  • Experience with People Soft preferred.
  • Experience in Washington State's Community and Technical Colleges system preferred.
  • Ability to plan, organize, coordinate, and implement process improvements. Ability to multi-task, set priorities and adhere to deadlines.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with persons from diverse educational, economic and cultural backgrounds.
  • Experience in supervising a diverse workforce.
Physical Requirements:
Ability to perform range of physical motions, exerting up to 25 pounds; lifting and carrying up to 25 pounds; standing, walking, sitting for long periods of time, kneeling, squatting, and stooping; and traversing up and down stairs.
