SBF Search is Hiring a Director of Operations Near Grand Rapids, MI

Dynamic, growing electrical contractor serving commercial and industrial customers in the Grand Rapids area is seeking a Director of Operations. They are positioning for continued, significant growth and the selected candidate will help lead the company through its next chapter. This is an excellent opportunity for someone looking to run operations in a high growth market with the backing of a national platform.

Position Summary

The Director of Operations oversees all aspects of operations (construction, service, automation, estimation, purchasing and safety). In addition, the Director of Operations has full P&L ownership for the operations department. The successful candidate will have strong leadership skills and significant operational experience in the commercial electrical contracting industry. The Director of Operations will report to Hillard’s President and will have regular interaction with the CMG Regional Vice President. This position is based in the Greater Grand Rapids MI area.

Compensation commensurate experience, with a base range of $175K-$200K, plus bonus.

Key Responsibilities

  • Achieve budget goals for your department.
  • Manage all aspects of operations (construction, service, automation, estimation, purchasing and safety)
  • Optimize job profitability and execution (estimation, pricing, contracting, scheduling, tracking, reforecasting, material cost controls, and labor productivity).
  • Build a strong safety culture to minimize the potential for injuries on our job sites and at our facilities.
  • Develop and implement plans to be the employer of choice in the region and increase the size of our field workforce.
  • Build a high performing team and set clear goals for your direct reports.
  • Train and develop the managers, staff and electricians in your department.
  • Work with the business development team to develop new client relationships and expand existing customer relationships.
  • Work with the President and Controller in the development of budgets, monitor and track the financial performance of your department, and participate in monthly financial and operations reviews.

Position Requirements

  • Strong leader with a track-record of leading teams to achieve results.
  • Desire to play a key leadership role during a period of transition and rapid growth at the company.
  • 10 years operations leadership experience in the commercial electrical contracting industry.
  • Experience managing $2m projects.
  • Technical knowledge gained through experience as an electrician, estimator, project manager, program manager, engineer, or operations manager.
  • Previous experience leading teams of 50 or more people
  • Previous experience in a P&L responsible role
  • Design build capability is a plus
  • Strong communication skills
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite (PowerPoint, Work, Excel, etc.).
