Savannah-Chatham County Public Schools is Hiring a Head Custodian Near Savannah, GA

PRIMARY FUNCTION: This position is the custodial leader for a facility with less than 90,000 s.f., and as such, assumes full responsibility for all custodial responsibilities to include building hygiene, light daily maintenance and basic safety.

REPORTS TO: Principal or Site Administrator
SALARY SCHEDULE: G-7
WORK DAYS: 250

REQUIREMENTS:
  1. Education Level: High school diploma or equivalent Preferred: Related technical college courses or supervisory training
  1. Experience, Skill, and Certification:
  • Previous experience in a custodial or maintenance position, in a lead or supervisory role
  • Knowledge of the working methods and procedures used in cleaning and minor maintenance of buildings
  • Knowledge of the qualities and uses of custodial supplies and equipment
  • Knowledge of care and cleaning of various types of heating and ventilation equipment
  • Knowledge of safety rules and regulations applicable to schools and related buildings
  • Ability to plan and organize the work of self and others involved in the custodial care of buildings
  • Ability to assign, train, and coordinate the work of the custodial crew
  • Ability to give and follow verbal and written instructions and directions and use a computer
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
  1. Ensures the cleanliness and safety of the school by monitoring and performing all custodial activities.
  2. Keeps the assigned work area clean by dusting, mopping, vacuuming, sweeping, buffing scrubbing and waxing floors, cleaning bathrooms, clean carpets, collecting and disposing of trash and debris from building and grounds, and other related activities.
  3. Schedules the work of other custodial staff; assists in selection of staff and performance evaluations.
  4. Uses appropriate equipment to clean carpets and strip, scrub, buff, and wax floors. Also, uses appropriate landscaping & lawn care equipment to maintain the school grounds.
  5. Moves furniture, equipment, & materials and performs all cleaning activities necessary to keep the building clean and safe.
  6. Mows grass and trims hedges.
  7. Operates and performs minor service on the heating and cooling system.
  8. Assists in securing school building by locking doors and windows and turning on the security alarm. Also, open the school building.
  9. Checks fire extinguishers and sends out for service when necessary.
  10. Performs minor repairs and maintenance.
  11. Orders cleaning supplies.
  12. Reports necessary repairs and safety concerns to manager.
  13. Performs other duties as necessary for the effectiveness of the organization and the safety of students and staff.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT
Incumbents will be considered "at will." Appropriate pay will be determined based on the Grade as determined by Human Resources and allowable experience. The work calendar will be 250 days.
