SARC, Inc. is Hiring a Shelter Director (Domestic Violence) Near Bel Air, MD

Job Overview:

The Shelter Director has primary responsibility to provide leadership to the confidential emergency shelter program in collaboration with the Shelter Coordinator. The Shelter Coordinator acts as the confidential emergency shelter program’s “second-in-charge.” The Director is responsible for all operations and staffing. Oversees program planning, oversight, and evaluation, facility and technology management and security, and takes lead responsibility on specific areas of program and facility management.

SARC has been providing hope and resources to victims of domestic violence, sexual violence, and stalking in Harford County for over 40 years. Must be available to respond to after hours and weekend emergency needs.

Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for coaching the Safehouse team in regards to crisis management, mediation, and overall clinical concerns of the house.
  • Ensures that staff is knowledgeable and implements the Trauma Informed Care (TIC) philosophy.
  • Directs staff in response to emergency situations and ensures property is maintained to meet health and safety regulations.
  • Oversees and ensures adequate scheduling of staff for 24-hour operation of Safehouse. In the event of critical shortage, will provide direct coverage of shifts as necessary.
  • Develop and maintain innovative methods of providing support to domestic violence, sexual assault, and stalking clients.
  • Evaluate the needs of the programs and make appropriate changes and/or additions to the programs.
  • Responsible for monthly and quarterly grant reporting.
  • Maintain and report accurate and up-to-date statistics for the program.
  • Responsible for writing local, State, and Federal grants.
  • Maintain a good working relationship with outside agencies, both in Harford County and surrounding areas.
  • Assume responsibilities of scheduled and unscheduled Helpline calls/shifts to include meeting with walk-in clients.
  • Meet regularly with the Chief Executive Officer to discuss cases, procedures, and problems.
  • Collaborate with Director of Facilites to oversee maintenance and technology needs of program.

Requirements:

- Master's degree in Social Work, Psychology, or related field
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Knowledge of crisis intervention techniques
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment
- Understanding of trauma-informed care principles
- Familiarity with community resources for survivors of domestic violence

-Prior management experience required
