POSITION PURPOSE
The Director of Parent and Family Engagement and Communication is a senior leader within the Division of Student Life. The Director is a critical connecting point for the families of undergraduate students and is responsible for communication and event planning in order to best support the success and retention of Santa Clara University students. The Director sets the strategic direction for Parent and Family Engagement, in alignment with university and divisional priorities, applying creative and strategic thinking to program design, service delivery and planning processes. The Director works with parents as partners to best support students and to increase parent/family involvement.
This is an area of renewed focus for the Division of Student Life with opportunities for office growth and development. Key partnerships include units across the Division of Student Life, Academic Affairs, University Relations and University Marketing and Communications, Mission and Ministry, Inclusive Excellence, Alumni Relations and Enrollment Management.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES - Parent Engagement Responsible for establishing and leading the strategic direction for parent and family engagement at SCU; establishing short-and long-range goals to meet the needs of parents and families.
Build and develop partnerships, relationships, and collaborations with all facets of the university to facilitate and enhance the resources and services provided to family members as they support their students.
Provide leadership and consultation for the university to address the changing needs of students and parents, especially in the areas of transition and retention.
Conceptualize, develop, and implement programs and services for parents and families.
Serve as the initial point of contact for parents and families and coordinate referrals to manage and address questions and concerns.
Partner with offices throughout campus to contribute to planning and communication for Orientation, Family Weekend, Commencement, and other events that include parent/family involvement.
Develop systems to organize the department's workflow to ensure quality, precision and timeliness of offerings.
Intentionally evolve offerings to best meet the needs of families as the office develops and grows and in response to the changing environment, assessment data, and developments on campus.
Represent this area on divisional and university committees and assist with additional projects as assigned.
Manage the unit budget and associated accounts.
C. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES - Communication
Manage communication targeted to parents and families, including content and design of online and printed newsletters, social media, and websites using various styles, techniques.
Manage and implement strategic marketing and communications that support the Division of Student Life.
Responsible for developing marketing and communications strategies, as well as executing the strategies.
Advise Division of Student Life partners on how to develop impactful and differentiated marketing communications initiatives.
Develop innovative technologies to enhance the student experience.
D. PROVIDES WORK DIRECTION
Serve as the direct supervisor to student employees with opportunity to supervise professional staff as the area evolves.
Supervise student employees while providing guidance, leadership, direction, and support to ensure quality and accountability.
E. QUALIFICATIONS

Demonstrated experience working effectively with students, parents, faculty and staff from diverse backgrounds, in support of an inclusive and welcoming environment.
Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
Demonstrated ability/experience to manage customer/constituent relationships.
Proven ability to develop and implement a comprehensive marketing and communication plan.
Strong organization and time management skills.
Experience in coordinating large-scale events/programs.
Ability to design and evaluate services by using needs and program assessments.
Experience with supervision of students.
Ability to have a high tolerance for ambiguity and extensive consultation to build consensus and to earn student, faculty and administrative support.
Preferred Qualifications
Prior experience with parent/family programming.
Experience working in a large, complex organization within higher education.
Experience creating and implementing a strategic plan.
Understanding and support of the Jesuit tradition of education and a commitment to the fundamental values of service to others, community, and diversity.
Education and Experience
Bachelor's degree required. Advanced degree preferred.
Minimum of six years of experience in student services, customer relations or related fields.
