The San Miguel School is an independent, tuition-free, Lasallian, urban middle school for 64 boys in grades 5-8 offering engaging academics, robust athletic and afterschool programs, summer camp opportunities, and professional counseling and learning support. Due to our holistic approach to education, boys at San Miguel feel a strong sense of belonging and are encouraged to serve others. Additionally, students and their families are guided in both their high school search process as well as their post-secondary academic or career pursuits. Summary of Position: San Miguel School seeks an experienced teacher with a passion for working with urban youth to join our team. This role is a full time, 10-month, salaried position, reporting to the principal. The primary responsibility of the role will be to teach reading and language arts to grade 5 and math to grades 5 and 6. Since 5th grade is the school’s entry point, this teacher has the unique and important responsibility of also onboarding our 5th graders to the culture, community and expectations of our school. This involves setting up clear and predictable classroom routines, establishing a rapport with each student to quickly identify their learning and social emotional needs (in collaboration with our learning specialist and social worker), communicating with families, working in collaboration with the 8th grade teacher with the mentor-mentee program consisting of grades 5 and 8, and leading Readiness Camp, a one-week day camp for 5th grade students in August.
