San Francisco Community Health Center is Hiring a Receptionist (Trans Services) Near San Francisco, CA

The Agency Receptionist is the face of the agency and reception at our Trans Services site, serving as the first point of contact for patients/clients and visitors of the organization. The Agency Receptionist is responsible for assessing client/visitor needs and connecting clients/visitors to requested persons and/or resources. The Agency Receptionist is specialized in navigating clients to SFCHC’s non-clinical, programmatic services.

The Agency Receptionist position requires good communications, resiliency, and flexibility to thrive in a fast-paced patient care environment by multi-tasking and prioritizing the workday. The Agency Receptionist reports directly to the Associate Director of Trans Services.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Greet patients/clients and visitors and assess needs
  • Manage client and visitor check in and out processes
  • Answer all incoming calls to the agency’s Trans Services line and transfer as appropriate
  • Respond to voicemails at least every 30 minutes
  • Enroll new patients into clinical services and refer to the clinical reception
  • Connect clients/visitors to appropriate staff
  • Understand and explain programmatic services to new client, potential clients, and visitors seeking navigation and support
  • Conduct administrative duties to support clinical and non-clinical services – schedule services, conduct service reminders, fax and scan documents.
  • Maintain agency/main reception area: organize literature, keep materials organized, maintain cleanly/sanitized space, notify Operations Manager of any custodial needs
  • Maintain agency reception advertising and compliance-related signage 
  • Coordinate with SFCHC’s Safety Intervention Specialist to manage client and patient flow and safety 
  • Support Programs to coordinate transportation for program clients as needed.
  • Explain services, including eligibility, to new clients, potential clients, and visitors
  • Provide client resources/referrals to supportive services (housing, financial, benefits, nutrition, etc.)
  • Participate in trainings and monthly staff/ program meetings and agency events.
  • Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Ability to work with diverse populations – LGBTQ communities, refugees/ immigrants, people experiencing homelessness, and multiply-diagnosed populations (those with substance use and/or mental health barriers)
  • A High school diploma or equivalent work/life experience
  • Highly organized.
  • Skilled in the use of computers (Adobe Acrobat, Microsoft Windows, and MS Office—Word, Excel, and Outlook).
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and demonstration of follow through and reliability. 
  • Ability to work with a multi-disciplinary team.
  • Experience in customer service, office and clerical work.
  • Experience in eligibility and enrollment.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and privacy of persons, documents, data, and communications.
  • Fully vaccinated against COVID-19 and able to show proof of vaccination 
  • Up-to-date with vaccinations, especially seasonal flu shot vaccine
  • Proof of TB clearance (issued within the past 12 months or less)

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bilingual
  • Experience working in a clinical or non-clinical reception area
  • Experience working in a health center, hospital, or free clinic
  • Self-starter, self-motivated and able to work within a team
