San Francisco Community Health Center is Hiring a Direct Services Coordinator Near San Francisco, CA

The Stop the Hate program is a wide-ranging, multi-faceted initiative designed to address the complex convergence of anti-Asian & Pacific Islander (API) LGBTQ hate, violence, and crime in an ambitious, holistic, and trauma-informed manner. The program will apply San Francisco Community Health Center's (SFCHC) unparalleled experience in working with and serving vulnerable API communities to develop an integrated program that responds to and addresses the long-term needs of victims and survivors of hate incidents while creating new initiatives and partnerships to raise awareness of API LGBTQ violence and to implement effective preventative and coalition-based strategies regarding this issue.

Position Overview:
The Direct Services Coordinator will conduct, coordinate, and facilitate direct support, intervention, and prevention services for API LGBTQ clients and communities. The ideal candidate will have demonstrated experience in planning and leading direct client prevention services within complex social service systems.

 Essential Duties:

  • Schedule ongoing anti-violence training sessions and support groups for API LGBTQ individuals, including Seeking Safety sessions.
  • Develop and implement API transgender-specific anti-hate and anti-violence programming.
  • Identify and schedule external providers to conduct self-defense, de-escalation, and other prevention courses for clients.
  • Develop and implement the project's after-hours escort service for API LGBTQ elders.
  • Assist the Program Manager with training and orienting 4 Peer Ambassadors for the API LGBTQ elderly escort service.
  • Provide counseling for survivors of violence and create referrals to professional mental health services within the agency.
  • Assist in planning the program's two annual staff consumer planning retreats.
  • Ensure that anti-hate and anti-violence activities are embedded within all relevant SFCHC programs and services, including the agency's new multi-service homeless and transgender drop-in centers.
  • Conduct outreach to local public and private agencies, programs, and services that involve API LGBTQ individuals to discuss and develop new collaborative approaches to addressing anti-API LGBTQ hate and violence.
  • Conduct presentations and educational sessions that raise awareness of the problem of API LGBTQ hate and violence, involving trained speakers and Peer Ambassadors
  • Ensure staff and peer participation in a wide range of local planning bodies and coalitions to ensure the incorporation of API LGBTQ hate and violence issues within community planning efforts.
  • Continually evaluate the program's effectiveness and improve client satisfaction and engagement.
  • Will be required to work evenings and some weekends for outreach events.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in a health or social services related field. A combination of experience and education will be considered.
  • Six months of experience in curriculum development and teaching in community­based settings.
  • Experience developing, administering, and facilitating groups.
  • Extensive knowledge and experience with API issues, community violence, and mental health issues.
  • Demonstrated experience in social service navigation and linkage/engagement in behavioral health services.
  • Extensive experience in developing program monitoring reports, contracts management; with strong attention to detail.
  • Understanding of the impacts of the social determinants of health on marginalized communities and a strong desire for positive social change.
  • Strong and demonstrated experience in public speaking.
  • Robust work ethic, organized, adaptable to change, and solutions-oriented.
  • Fully vaccinated against COVID-19, complete with booster shot(s) and able to show proof of vaccination
  • Up-to-date with vaccinations, especially seasonal flu shot vaccine
  • Proof of TB clearance (issued within the past 12 months or less)

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working with transgender issues; experience working in transgender and gender nonconforming communities.
  • Master's in social work/background in social work
  • Has demonstrated experience as an individual who has planned, led, and implemented effective service and prevention initiatives within complex social service agencies.
  • Experience with software: Microsoft Office suites, Google suites, Canva, etc.
  • Reliable means of transportation.
