Student Support and Family Services Coordinator
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
The Family Services Coordinator has the primary responsibility of serving as a liaison
between families and the Academy. This position directly supports the academic, personal,
social emotional growth of students by accompanying families through their years in De
Marillac’s 4th-8th grade program. This role reports directly to the Principal, and demands a
close working relationship with the Principal, Vice Principal, counseling team, DMA
Faculty/Staff and the DMA Family Community. This position is available now until June 30,
2023.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Student Support and Family Services
Provide responsive services to students and families in partnership with the
administrative team and counseling team, and act as primary case manager for
students and families in distress or crisis;

  • Serve as a liaison between families and School Administration, School Counselor and

Resource Specialist to ensure students are receiving appropriate support services;

  • Facilitate onsite support as well as outside referrals to families from outside agencies;
  • Meet with families as needed to anticipate student needs and discuss family support

options and opportunities;

  • Assist with appropriate paperwork, and resolve routine administrative issues related to

office functions using established school policies and procedures, assist with making
appropriate referrals as necessary;

  • Assist with preparing summaries, and/or replies to inquiries for internal use and DMA

publications;

  • Assist with the compilation and distribution of community resources;
  • Serve as translator in family meetings regarding student progress and support with

faculty, staff and Administration;

  • Support the annual TADS financial-aid application and re-enrollment process;
  • Assess and respond to financial support requests made by families;
  • Provide assistance with parent and family advocacy in student/school related matters;
  • Leads the school in fostering a family-friendly school climate;
  • Supports the Family Council;
  • Working with the Principal, process Title 1 services;
  • Create Independent Student Contracts for students who are out for three (3) or more

days;

Family Programming
Facilitates parent and family participation in all aspects of school community including
academics, athletics, development/ fundraising, faith formation, service, and graduate
support;

  • Coordinates family engagement activities (i.e., workshops, monthly family meetings,

volunteer opportunities, cultural heritage celebrations, Open House, community
events, incoming families’ orientation, etc.) that promote functioning and lasting
relationships within the school community;

  • Supports the DMA Family Council in coordination with the Principal;
  • Gauge families’ sense of school engagement and support through the biannual survey.

Other
Provide supervision as staff member as needed including but not limited to daily
openings, daily dismissals, daily assemblies, closing processes/procedures, family
meetings, and other school-wide programming occurring outside of typical school
days;

  • Familiarize oneself with the charisms of De La Salle Christian Brothers and the

Daughters of Charity;

  • Collaborate with the Director of Graduate Support in supporting needs of students

and families;

  • Accept additional responsibilities as directed by the Principal or President.

QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience
Bachelor’s degree or comparable work experience required;

  • Experience working in a related field, especially experience with youth and families;
  • Fluent in Spanish and English (writing, reading & speaking);
  • Experience providing a high degree of professional customer service;
  • Proven success in managing and maintaining collegial and professional relationships.

Technical Competencies
Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, G-Suite, Salesforce, and social media platforms;

  • Strong interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills with diverse

constituencies;

  • Data collection, analysis, and problem-solving skills.

Skills and Abilities
Strong leadership and collaboration abilities;

  • Ability to foster an environment of teamwork and thrive in times of change and

growth;

  • Ability and willingness to support fundraising activities to help support and sustain the

school (e.g. grant writing, presentations and networking with geographic community,
education community and Catholic community);

  • Comfort working in the Tenderloin neighborhood and with diverse communities;
  • Enthusiastic and resourceful, with an interest in participating in a fun, engaging and

humor rich work environment.

  • Requires some long hours working at the computer
  • Some evening and weekend responsibilities

Compensation and Benefits
Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience. A comprehensive benefits package
is provided, including a transportation stipend. Other incentives include spiritual formation
opportunities and year-long professional development.
