We are looking for a passionate follower of Jesus, who is a skilled cook, driven by a desire to make a meaningful impact in our community. If you possess the skills to inspire and lead with a servant-heart and you are an excellent cook, who can rally teams of staff and volunteers to provide dignity and respect to those experiencing homelessness through a meal, then the San Diego Rescue Mission invites you to join our team as a Cook.

As a Cook, you will be an integral part of our Kitchen Team, playing a pivotal role in caring for our students and guests. Your primary responsibilities will include leading a team of staff and volunteers, planning, preparing and cooking meals, opening and closing the kitchen and ensuring compliance with food handling standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan, prepare, and cook meals for our community.
  • Open and close the kitchen facility, ensuring cleanliness and organization.
  • Manage and train kitchen staff and volunteers, fostering a positive and efficient work environment.
  • Coordinate with suppliers and manage inventory effectively.
  • Ensure compliance with food handling regulations and health and safety standards.
  • Engage with the community and participate in our mission to serve the homeless.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 3 years of professional cooking experience.
  • Special License/Certification: Current Food Handler's card, C.A. Driver's license
  • Proven ability to manage kitchen operations, staff, and volunteers.
  • A strong passion for serving others and making a difference in the community.
  • Excellent organizational and leadership skills.
  • Proficiency in various cooking techniques and cuisines.
  • Good understanding of food hygiene and safety regulations.

This position's pays $20 per hour
